The Eight Chambers (spoiler)

Post by forger1977 »

How the hell am I supposed to kill 15 monks with no armor and good weapons?I looked at the wall near the one with the switches and the right order for the switches is 15324.Now if I do this I oftenly get killed facing four stone monks when I open then second switch.I need help because I have already saved the game (I admit that I am an *******) after the first switch.

What kind of party are you using? Do you have a druid? How about a barbarian? You probably wont' be able to bash your way through, so figure out who you can use to do damage while remaining out of harm's way, or at least who can kill fast (i.e. before they get killed themself). A shapechanged druid works great!

I used a barbarian with rage and 2 weapon style but these others will also work great:

1) As Kayless said in the guide to multiclassing thread, a druid with a level of barbarian is excellent. Shapechange as Skooter pointed out, but also you can use barbarian rage, if you have a level of barbarian. Should be enough.

2) Anyone that can summon anything. Preferably a cleric or a druid so you can heal in the middle too. I used this for one of the chambers.

There are more things out there, for sure, but those Id recommend first hand.

Ummmm.....hes the moderator for this forum and he does a damn good job keeping the peace and being a friendly character while doing it. If you dont like it, then obviously youre misjudging the situation or you can hit the road. Hmm. Just reached the Eight Chambers in HoF-mode, the first 7 were a walk in the park (using my cleric or sorcerer, summons etc.), but the eight one (Chamber of Immolation of something) is tricky. I've tried all of my characters, and the best I've managed to do, is get another of the monks to hurt-condition.

Monks are unaffected by Wail of Banshee, Finger of Death etc. Summons won't work since the monks are 'quite fast'. Aegis keeps me alive for 5 to 10 seconds at most. Casting invisibility and running out of sight won't work either since monks attack you immediately after you come visible.

My monk, barbarian, paladin do even worse than my sorcerer.
So it's quite needless to say that some help would be appreciated. :)

Hmmm....you sure? I used summoning, and it worked perfectly. I summoned 4 creatures, and only 1 died. It held both up, while my claric sat back and avoided the fire. When one creature died, I simply cast another one. And the monks were gone in a mere two minutes or so. Thats all. Just summon as many creatures and keep your character away from the flames, and it should be over quickly. But make sure the creatures you cast are actually worth it. Not like monster summoning 1. More like animate dead or something.

@Ty - Murmeli is playing in HoF - this may make a difference. I wasn't playing in HoF yet had the same problem. The first 7 rooms were no challenge at all for my cleric + summons (when necessary), but the Chamber of Immoliation was much harder. Summoning takes time, especially the undead. For this last chamber I used my druid shapeshifted to a Shambling Mound (affording more HP and a little resistance to fire) then I completed it in no time :)

Ah. My bad. I missed that it was HoF. Im not sure what it is, but it certainly is different from the way I played through it.

How can you guys summon creatures that remain in the battle square room? Everytime I summon a creature, it is warped to a room in the northwest of this level.

@bellock: Psst! This isn´t about oria´s game room in ch. 2... It is about (spoiler): the monastery in ch. 4 or 5 where you have to deal with a hell of a lot monks. ;)

@Ysh: Have you gotten the dire bear shapechange ability? I found that a lot more effective than the shambling mound, since the bear hits a lot more than the mound...

Yes, my druid did get this ability but for some strange reason the option is not showing *shrugs* This happened with one of the other shapechanging abilities but it showed up following another level up. I don't know if this is a bug.

I often use more than one shapechange during a tougher battle since it adds a few life points each time :D (not to human shape though) ie, changing from human to Shambling Mound will give your character and additional 12HP. A Shambling Mound also often causes entangle when it hits, which I found useful in the final chamber as the monk would be hit by the flames since they could not move. A shame that entangle is so random :D

chamber 8 frustrated

I have tried loads of times with all members of my party but I just cannot kill the brass monks, I read that if you have improved invisibility spell it's easy but I don't have it and can't find it!

I am now getting thoroughly fed up with this game!

Would appreciate any help you can give.

Will check to see if my druid can do the shambling mound thing see if that works.

Thanks

I had a very hard time with this also and attempted it 20-30 times. I did it with my fighter and the hint that helped me was to hit once and move. Concentrate on the same monk until he dies then attack the second. I managed to kill one of them with the throwing axes and used the regular battle axe for the second. I think I took about 100 hp in damage when I finally managed it.

Good luck.

Yeah, I kind-of used the same strategy with Celeborn, except I beat that chamber with a Half-Orc Barbarian multi-classed to Ranger. I'd have him with a War Hammer in his main hand, and a short sword in the other. I'd use his Barbarian Rage to enhance his hit points AND possible damage to whichever brass monk came looking for a fight. In the end, he was just a few hit points away from death, but came out with his life.
