Swoop Racing aggravating? (spoilers?)

Post by The1Raven »

I'm just curious because I'm freshly aggravated by Swoop racing.

Does anyone else find the process for winning all three races on a planet annoying as freaking hell? Maybe I'm just not that good at swoop racing, but it can take me hours to finish all three races. Why, pray tell is that? Let's see.......

1) initiate dialogue
2) flip through several dialogue screens
3) watch a load screen
4) race for approx. 20 seconds
5) watch a load screen
6) watch a cut-scene
7) flip through more dialogue screens
8) If I didn't beat the required time(quite frequent for third race): Lose 100 bucks
9) Since I'm doing this to EARN money: Reload and therefore watch ANOTHER load screen
10) repeat steps 1-7 if I win 1-10 if not

Exactly how is 2 to 4 minutes of load screens and the same frikin' dialogue for every 20 seconds of race time fun? I guess I shouldn't complain too much because the rest of the game is fantastically fun, but this process has the ability to ruin 2 to 3 hours of potentially quality game time. Especially if I'm drinkin' some beers while I play.

Ok. I just had to vent.

Dear fella player,
I hate to be a bad player but dun bother with racing or hunting to get credits. The game will enter more than 40 hours to earn enough for the expensive items.

Use the Manaan airlock cheat to get some quick credits. Learn which items sell for lots... it's pretty obvious.

I race for fun... I know exactly how you feel about racing. It was till someone in this forum who reminded me of cheating that I did away with racing and still enjoy the game. I mean... this is so stupid. The whole universe relies on you and yet you have to raise your own funds through some stupid racing.

But that is just bad... cheating is bad...
In the end, everything will be alright. If it is not alright, it is not the end.

Airlock cheat? Is the process for doing this located here on Gamebanshee?

Maybe you shouldn't tell me. I'm just going to play dark side next time. I've noticed that it's much easier to get all the money you could ever need by going dark side. And that's without cheating.

Although, cheating IS kind of dark side-ish. So if someone would like to fill me in, I'm already starting to feel a little evil.

I don't know if you are playing on the PC or Xbox, but on the PC there are Quickload and Quicksave keys. I always Quicksave before talking to the race coordinator everytime. I have found that when I don't make the time I try for, there is a small period of time right after the load screen, when the screen is black that I can hit the quickload before the cutscene starts. It really helps speed things up, especially on Manaan.

Yeah, I'm playing on the xbox. I can't even speed up the cut-scenes. I have to sit through each and every agonizing moment. Forced to watch those fair-weathered fans boo me OVER and OVER and OVER.

When I go Dark side they're all gonna pay. At least in my mind they'll pay.

Yes, the cheat is on this website. I leave the decision to you. One word of caution should you choose this dark path...

cheating is like hacking.... always save multiple copies. No one else will be held responsible should you make mistakes.... remember...

Well - seeing as I have little problem with the initial swoopraces, I found them a relaxing break from the game, and something that added to the lenght of them because I find the game to short (it didn't take me no where near 40 hours to go through the game, ever), but different story :D

The first time I was swoopracing on Tatooine - however - I was almost breaking my screen because I got annoyed at it - but second time around and following plays, I had no problem beating up to the last tier without reloads and similar.
Only the last tier on each race - mostly manaan - do cause me some problems.

I must admit that the load and cut scene times annoy the crispy smeg out of me too as I too am an xboxer. However the only race I seem to have bother with is the 3rd Tatooine race, I'm always just over by a smattering of milliseconds and so loose despite using the pause all the time approach. Manaan held no problems for me thankfully, but poor Nico never gets his better contract. It is a great way to make some fast money and as I'm usually too impatient to do the hatchway cheat but that is another excellant way to get cash. BTW how much can you sell Cassus Fetts armour for?

Yeah, it's really only the third race that gives me problems. I can usually win the first two races on the first try, unless I'm using my nose for the accelerator shift and my toes to steer. But I have trouble with the third one on both Tattooine and Manaan. I can get within 4 or 5 hundredths of a second like twenty times in a row which, of course, just adds to the frustration and results in a "AAAAAHH....sooo clOSE!!". And then when I DO beat it, I blow it out of the water by about half a second. I keep trying to WILL a "restart race?" option before the cut-scene, but I guess my own personal will bonus isn't so high. It always makes me want to drag some programmer out from behind his keyboard and shove peas up his nose for two hours so that he can share in my frustration. Fair is fair, right?

Your probably aware of this but did you know that if you talk to the Ithorian dude on Manaan BEFORE you enter a race, it will make beating the third time even harder, I can manage it and it is quite fun for a challenge.
Damn the third race on Tatooine though, never beaten that yet!

No, I didn't know that speaking to the Ithorian made it more difficult. I'll remember not to do that next time. I'm surprised you have a harder time with Tatooine than with Manaan. For me it's like I have a harder time seeing the obstacles and end up hitting them a lot. It also seems like I can go over some of the booster plates (or whatever you call them) without getting my boost. Maybe I'm just imagining that part, it's possible that after about an hour of not winning, my anger makes me see a whole slew of things going against me. THE WHOLE WORLD'S AGAINST ME!!! Except when I'm not swoop racing, of course.

personally I love swoop racing, its simple, fun, and a nice diversion. In terms of your problems I had those for a while but not anymore. My suggestion is to do a whole ton of practice rounds because there are less talking and no annoying cutscenes.

Swoop Racing is better than Pazaak. Why couldn't they just add Blackjack or Poker? We're not aliens, we don't know what the hell Pazaak is.

And we don't know anything about headbands that prevent mental attacks or healing packs that can repair all damage short of death, either, but we learn. ;) Pazaak was simply an attempt to introduce an exotic-seeming card game to KotoR1, and I think it worked. It's not exotic enough, IMO. If you played Might and Magic 7 or 8, it had a wonderful little card game with all sorts of novel effects, largely centering around building your own tower and/or knocking your opponent's down. But that kind of thing wouldn't have worked for flat-out gambling. ;)

I think the best thing about Pazaak was that it didn't require the kind of boringly repetitive arcade action of shooting down ships, or the trigger reflexes for the race driving. They almost made me feel like this RPG was designed for 7-year-olds. Just my POV.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Swoop - I really don't have much trouble with winning the swoop races (and I usually suck at "racing" games). I do save before racing and reload if I lose. The cutscene when you lose does get on my nerves, I would really like to just insta-reload if I lose. But its not that bad.

Also, if you have access to Yavin and win all the races on Tatooine and sell the racing bonds on Yavin, you can get like 20-30k without "cheating". I really prefer not to use glitches, bugs, and cheats so earning money by spending a few minutes racing or cleaning out the Pazaak players is worth it to me and I like to accomplish everything (including all of the Pazaak players).
May the Force be with you...

I apologise for going of topic on this but I can never be bothered with the pazzack games, whereas I always do the Swoop races, it's just that although the pazzack can earn you big money, in order to really reap the benefits you have to sit for the better part of an hour in order to beat the guy however many times to get the 'special bonus' or whatever it is, (never been patient enough to do it myself) I can comfortably complete the game AND buy all the cool items I need without doing it. Yet again it comes down to having to save and reload if you loose. Quite tedious if you only play after work like poor me

No arguements from me on that point. Pazzak can be fun at times, but in order to gain anything substantial you have to sit there for hours. It always seems that the computer can pull the card out of it's 'port' just when you thought you were going to win.

Yeah that is a little suspicious how it manages to just by chance have the exact card required at any occasion.....I smell a cheat!
