ToB: Backstab and Haste

Post by Vehemence »

I've noticed that if my assassin is equipped with boots of speed or Grandmaster's Armour +6, he is less likely to get a successful backstab. Yet if I have no haste on, he will be more successful in his backstabs.

Is this a bug or intentional?
Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

Use 'bood of speed' patch from Baldurash homepage if you feel your backstab has become less successful with items you mentioned (ToB compatible). But I recon success rate for backstab is not affected by those items.

Actually, it is. I've noticed that wearing them causes my assassin to become visible before he lands a hit, causing the backstab to fail, even if he hits successfully. I've had to unequip the boots to backstab, re-equip them to run away, etc.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I knew I wasn't imagining it! That's the same thing that happens with me.

The problem is due to the doubled initiative round of the character wearing the boots, and I believe Kevins patch fixes it.

By the way its good to see you Sojourner and Vehemence, I dont come here as much, as I am a moderator at the Team Bg Forums for scripting and dont wander the net as much as I used too, also been rather busy working on expansion(s).But its good to see the old crew...

Nice to see our resident item maker and bug fixer :) Welcome back! :)

Thanks for the info, but one small question. The description says:

Improved Boots Of Speed Fix resolves the three known issues with the Boots Of Speed (haste doesn't increase attacks, doubled initiative round leaves chars. wasting their attack windows, and invisible chars. become visible before attacking due to the doubled initiative round.) Now Beige Tangerine has made them even better by correcting the movement rate increases for Monks and Barbarians so that they receive the same benefits!

The bold bit. Does this mean that the boots will no longer increase attack or that it fixed the boots so that it will increase attack?

I guess that refers to a bug that prevents Hasted characters wearing Boots of Speed from getting their extra attack.
