What party are you using?

Post by aureus »

Just curious what parties people are using, I at the moment am
Me: Cavalier with holy avenger

Minsc: with crom fayer and mace of disruption +2

Valgygar: flail of ages and celestial fury

Viconia: mauler's arm to get that strength up

Aerie

Nalia

Didn't pick up saverok, mainly because he was pretty much limited to 2h sword and I want varied weapons since my main is my 2h sword guy. Valygar is nice with the katana because he stuns mobs left and right, and minsc is an undead/golem killing machine, he walked solo through the prison in the beginning of ToB and solo'd all the vamps.
I really am sick of not having an uber caster, and kind of don't like having to be a goody two shoes, though I did tag Viconia, so I am looking for some good combos. Also do Edwin and Minsc duke it out in ToB if they are together in the same party now as opposed to in SoA?

I like the same team I had in SoA.

Me (Cavalier)
Casomyr or (Purifier + shield)

Minsc
Celestial Fury + Daystar or Flail of Ages

Cernd
Staff of Woodlands or Avoreen Sling
(Mostly fight in Greater werewolf form -12 AC)

Viconia
Crom Fayer + Shield or mace of disruption (Also uses girdle of fortitude 18 to cons 1/day)

Aerie
Staff of Magi

Depending on circumstance (need a stronger theif or stronger mage)

Jan or Imoen
Geasen Bow
Cutthroat or D'kaherns blade
Dragons, demons, fair maidens in distress... A daily life of a cavalier - Gecko

my party in ToB

me (mage)

minsc - backup tank and good old friend. can't lose him. :)

seravok - AWESOME tank and one hell of a damage dealer. :)

viconia - AWESOME cleric and great summoner.

imoen - trap finder and back up caster. good old friend too...can't get rid of her.

aerie - backup cleric and mage. she is great for support when you need an extra healer or damage dealer.

this party has been great so far. the huntress party was probably the only one that made things a bit difficult for a bit.

I don't think it matters much - you could probably have six beastmasters and you'd still manage to kill everything (with enough reloads).
I wish I could play with a team of six familiars - that might be amusing :)

I have 1 good and 1 evil party in TOB...good party already finished game.

GOOD
me (inquisitor)

anomen (cleric/backs me up in fights)

jahaira (cleric/backs me up with sling)

imoen (handles all thieving and magical needs).

didn't have much of a tough time...except for the last battle but that was only because Jahaira kept failing her save and getting turned to stone by beholders which screwed up the ending for me...since she was my romance... i guess it took 3 reloads.

EVIL
me (barbarian...very nice with hardiness ability is almost impervious to physical damage)

Korgan (awesome fighter)

Serevok (awesome fighter...instakill deathblow ability...very handy)

Viconia (healer)

edwin (if you thought he rocked in SOA...using him and his wish spells almost makes it too easy)

imoen (just cause)

i usually only have 4 in a party but i added serevok and imoen just cause this was the first group to make it to TOB and I wanted to see what they were about in TOB being my siblings and such....
Glory, formally Genesis who forgot his damn password.

I don't have ToB, but I'm playing a good and evil party in SoA.

Good (Chapter 6):
Me (sorceror)
Keldorn w/ Carsomyr
Minsc w/ Mace of distruption/crom faeyr and Flail of Ages
Jaheira with +2 club "gnasher"
Aerie - Spells, spells, spells
Imoen - gotta have her, decent thief, good mage

For ToB, I have no clue on who to drop for Saervok. Any help decisiding...

Evil (in Chapter 3)
Me (monk)
Korgan with frostreaver
Viconia
Jan
Edwin
Yoshimo (for huge exp quest and to be replaced with Imoen)

Droping either Jan :( or Imoen for ToB.
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

Since I haven't got ToB yet I'll state the party I'll take to ToB

Me - Cavalier - guess what weapon
Minsc - with that spear you get from the shark's king - deals with a lot of dmg...
Valygar - dual Blackrazor and the equilizer
Anomen - dual the crom faeyr and the mace of ditruption + 2
Imoen - cutthroat +4 but using magic mostly and doesn't fight a lot
Aerie - with the sling of Avoree IIRC

I'm planning on gettin Sarevok instead of valygar and let minsc use Valygar's current weapons while Sarevok will use the soul reaver at the beggining...

Any advices?

Well I made a slight change in my party for the better. So now its
Me-Breserker. Dual Wield Long/Bastard Swords
Sarevok- heheh its sarevok.
Minsc-Out. Replaced with Anomen-He maybe annoying but he has those restorations spells. Using that Runehammer +4 still.
Cernd- Sling. Heals the whole party. And attacks with Insect swarm and that higher lvl of it.
Jeheria- Sling and Scimitar. Also heals.
Imoen-My one mage in the party. Hey its maybe not much magic in the party but who needs it when you run in with a Berseker and Sarevok. Put on Critical strike and then Whirlwind attack. :D
Trap? What trap!? Ah shi....!!!!

SoA may have been made for good parties, but ToB is an evil little game, my friends. Dark Planetars? That's just too cool...

ME (Sorcerer - simply the best class; aesthetically it seems to me to be the most appropriate for a Bhaalspawn, although I also think Assassin fits well as an aspiring Lord of Murder)

SAREVOK (Who else to teach the ways of evil?)

KORGAN (If you've got "Warhammer" grandmastered & Crom Faeyr from SoA dual wielded with a decent axe, this dwarf is a monster)

VICONIA (She provides so much healing it'd be foolish not to have her, and it's a blast to control the undead; she's also my Romance)

JAN (The only non-evil party member, he's always complaining about how the party is like a bad butt sore or something; all you Minsc fans out there who dig on cheesy humour should concede that Jan is far more amusing)

EDWIN (My favourite NPC in BG2, I pretty much emulate Edwin in my P&P game; he is the quintessential evil mage of D&D lore)
I see the right, and I approve it too; condemn the wrong and yet the wrong pursue.

Eh, first time around I did:
Me (monk, gauntlets of crushing, the amulet you get from aran linvail, ring of gaxx, ring of protection +2, and then towards the end the ioun stone that gives regeneration, I've now got like 3/round!)
Minsc (dualing FoA +5 and Crom Fayer, with red dragon plate, boots of speed, the ranger cloak)
Keldorn (carsomyr +6, boots of speed, some -2 AC plate, amulet you get at the end of SoA)
Jaheira (Ixil's spike +6, boots of speed, White Dragon Chain, Druid ring)
Nalia (Robe of Vecna, Ring of Wizardry, some other ring, boots of speed, bracers +3, tansheron's bow as main with staff of the magi for melee, the upgraded ioun stone/circlet of netheril that gives you extra spells)
Imoen (the uprgraded elven mail, Gesen's bow as main with short sword of mask +5 for melee, ring of acuity, boots of speed, ioun stone that gives extra hp)

I finished with that story and restarted from final battle, this time I'll be doing the same party with Sarevok (Soul Reaver +4) instead of Minsc and Anomen (right now with Crom Fayer, soon to be dualing it and FoA) instead of Jaheira.

What I noted:
Monks rock! 103% Magic resistance (it's capped at 78 for the monk, +10 for the end of SoA, +10 for Ring of Gaxx, +5 for the Amulet)
Boots of Speed are great
Get as many holding containers as possible
Greater Whirlwind rocks!!!!
The best summons, by far, are Greater Elemental and Planetar.
Wands of Spell Striking are life savers
Time Stop+Shapeshift rocks
AC doesn't do much unless it's better than -10
The weapons enemies drop can finance you quite well, thank you very much.
Potions are a must.
When using the Greater Elemental summoning, don't summon in other creatures next to it- if you get the air one, its globe of blades can accidentally hit one of your party members
Planetars (and maybe Devas) have Vorpal weapons...very convenient, as I discovered against a dragon...
Stoneskin still rocks
Make sure to equip Jaheira with the ring that helps druids, it will give you the extra heal and extra greater elemental summoning
Whenever you come across a rod of resurrection, take it. It works wonders. I think I used up 2 full ones through the course of the game.
Dispel Magic is a must. I suppose you can dire charm your party members back, but other spells need dispelling. Keldorn's works quite well.
True Seeing is a must. Keldorn's works quite well.
A high level anti-spell shield spell (like Spellstrike or Pierce shield i believe) is useful to let your breaches work on stuff like immune to normal weapons. Also are very useful against stuff like absolute immunity, which some enemies do cast.

?!?!

Was this changed for ToB? In SoA, you can Breach right through Spell Deflection/Turning/Trap. Only thing that ever stops it is Spell Shield.

You sure?
