Warcraft III board

Post by Kayless »

I recently started wondering why Game Banshee lacks a message board for this particular title. I know Game Banshee is focused primarily on RPGs but War3 contains several role-playing elements like heroes that gain levels and can be equipped various items, as well as neutral NPCs to fight or trade with. Warcraft III will undoubtedly be a popular game when it’s released early next year, so why not have a board for it? I daresay a War3 message board would probably be more popular than some of the other boards (such as the Dark Age of Camelot and Dungeon Siege sections).

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I don't really mind who is made moderator on a War3 board, I just would like there to be one. Game Banshee is a much more pleasant environment than many of the Warcaft message boards out there and it would be nice to be able to discuss the game here. When Blizzard removed the Ranger from the game people on other boards were swearing and acting really immature. I know that wouldn't happen here.

BTW, the Diablo 2 expansion is called Lord of Destruction. Baal does not equal Bhaal.

Check the topic in RPG Discussion for reasons why we shouldn't have a diablo 2 forum.
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

Mostly cause D2, in essence, isn't an RPG.

Not sure about War3. It does look promising, but at the same time, it's primarly RTS. Possibly as more information for it comes out, we'll be able to discren how much of it actually is RPG, and how much is RTS.

Warcraft III was originally labeled as an RPS (Role-Playing Strategy), though Blizzard
decided to shift focus back on the strategy elements after some design problems. Yet the game still has many of those RPG aspects included. Originally War3 was to be 60% RTS/40% RPG. Now it looks more like 80% RTS/20% RPG. I'd still like to see it get a place on Game Banshee.

I can understand your reasons Buck. It would definitely be hard to compete with some of the more established sites out there. I still think it’s a shame though.

When it comes to the races I think Blizzard made the right decision about making the Burning Legion a non-player race. To make them balanced and playable would mean paring them down to realistic levels, which wouldn’t be congruent with their reputation as the nastiest blokes in the Warcraft universe. The mysterious sixth race was never identified, though it’s possible that some of the Creeps might have originally been part of them.

The main problem I have with War3 is that it’s leaning back towards town resource management (what with the return of lumber as a resource). War1 and War2, while fun, always felt like a more militant version of Sim City. I was really looking forward to the smaller scale strategic battles Blizzard initially hinted at. Now Warcraft III looks like a 3D version of War2 with some RPG elements thrown in the mix. I’ve no doubt that it’ll still be a great game, just not the one I was hoping for. :(

Hopefully Blizzard will stick with its recently revealed approach to legendary heroes and have the plot elaborate more on Azeroth’s rich back-story. If it can tie up some of the loose ends caused by Garona and Medivh’s supposed presence, as well as the relation to the canceled Lord of the Clans, then I’ll be content with the game. :)
