Prologue

Something was happening. Elijah sat in the dark of his home packing frantically. It started only moments before, a rider came to their small village shouting out in alarm. Some people screamed at what he had to say, other grabbed stick of wood, pitchforks and the rare sword. A few others ran for a forest, that bordered the villages’ south end, with items of value clutched in their hands or tied to their backs. Elijah’s older brother, who had found a stick of his own, told the young Elijah to go back to their one room cabin to get some food, and anything else that he wanted to keep, and then he was to meet him at the edge of the forest.

Elijah had finished packing and after changed into clothing better suited for travel, he reached for the door but stopped himself. He couldn’t hear the voices of the villagers anymore; his heart began to pound. Elijah stood as still as a rock and after what felt like a lifetime he forced himself to look out the window. He saw a ring of torched, and more appearing by the second, surrounded the north tip of the village. Most of the men and some women of the village grouped near the village center setting up make-sift barricades; Elijah didn’t see his brother.

Elijah decided to make for the forest. He wasn’t entirely sure what was going on but he knew it wasn’t good. The adults would know what to do, he thought to himself. He had only seen fifteen winters from the time when he was born. Elijah started out in a jog but was running when he hear commotion behind him. By the time he reached the forest arrows where screeching all around him and when he turned back to the village it was burning. Shock spread through his body as the attack on the village unfolded about him. He couldn’t tell who was attacking all Elijah could see was that they were disfigured humanoids. He waited a long time for his brother but he never came, with no other options as the enemy closed it on his hiding spot he turned and ran into the forest, blinded by tears.
What's he so angry for? All i did was accidentaly run over his dog. Except change 'accidentaly' with 'repeatedly' and 'dog' with 'son'.

Chapter One

A caravan of four wagons moved along at a steady pace, it was mid afternoon and the sun was shining. Around fifteen people made the caravan their home and traveled from village to village and occasionally the rare city. They sold goods to whom ever wanted to buy and sometimes held small plays that are preformed by three clumsy and o so funny gnomes. Over the past couple of months the merchants of the caravan have been hearing rumors of troubles around the Hangraz area. Hangraz is a region in the center of the nation made up of mountains, larges steep and uneven hills and a couple of very old and ancient forests. A century ago it had been occupied by terrifying evils that wielded powers so great they threatened to wipe out the people of the land. The Elvin inhabitants of the nation held strong and slowly purged the evils from Hangraz but their numbers were greatly reduced in the fighting and are a rarity in the land of the present.

Something strange is happening in the Hangraz area, settlements are being attack and people are disappearing. Anyone that has gotten near enough to explore the Hangraz have never come back or been seen from again. People that know of the story about the Hangraz of old are worried about these new tidings and are finding their way as far away from the Hangraz as possible.

A few months ago the caravan had come across one such settlement that had been attacked near the Hangraz. Few people of the settlement remained there; the ones that did had buried their dead and were trying to rebuild their village. While they were there the merchants met a boy who had asked when they were to leave if they would take him with them. He had lossed the last of his family in the attack and didn’t wish to stay in the village, his name was Elijah.

The caravan was moving along at a steady pace while Elijah walked next to it. They had just departed the city of Jierage where they the merchants had been selling their wares for the past two weeks. Although Elijah doesn’t sell items of his own, he helps the merchants as they sell theirs. He never really liked their stays in the big cities of the city but they did give him the chance to catch up on the happening and rumors of the land. He had been with the caravan for the past couple of months and had got to know everyone well, even if he kept to himself especially when talking about his past. He had often revisited, in his thoughts and dreams, the dreadful events that had befallen on his home and village when his brother had been killed and often thought of the revenge he would elicit if he found the ones responsible.

“Elijah! Wait up!” He had been walking head of the caravan and when he turned around he saw a familiar face. Rebecca, the rangers’ daughter, ran up to meet him. She had been friends with him from the time the merchants had found him at the village. She was someone he could talk to or laugh with; he found it very easy to get along with her. Rebecca was around his age with black hair and brown eyes that compliments her beautiful face and well developed tanned body.

"Hello, Rebecca anything wrong?"

"No, but the horses are acting a bit strange so the others have decided to make camp for the night. Come on I'll race ya!"
