Looking back: BG I intro movie
Looking back: BG I intro movie
Remember the intro movie from BG I (bear in mind that I haven't watched it for some time):
An armoured man bursts through doorway, staggers and then collapses. He is on the roof of tall building (the Iron Throne headquarters in Baldur's Gate, though the first time viewer is not aware of it yet) and it is night-time. The sound of heavy footfalls can be heard approaching the doorway; Sarevok (though again the audience is not aware of it yet) suddenly smashes through the it looking more like some dark metallic demon than a man. The collapsed warrior crawls away feebly and begs for his life. Sarevok laughs fiendishly and lifts him by the throat with one arm and without any apparent effort. Sarevok: "You shall be last and I shall be first!" A genuinely horrible gargling noise can now be heard as Sarevok crushes the fallen warriors throat before tossing over a nearby ledge; after a considerable fall the body lands with a crunch upon the cobbles. Blood trickes out of the ruined corpse and gathers in a pool around it.
Genuinely scary and for the time technically impressive; the point when at the end of Chapter Five you got to visit the place were it happened was for me one of the coolest moments in the game. One thing that bugged me though was the fact that you never learn who the guy being killed was; no explanation of it is offered during the game, but having played through SoA I guess the smart money would have to on his being another child of Bhaal. Does anyone have any other ideas and did it get aybody else wondering?

"Security isn't a dirty word Blackadder; crevice is a dirty word, but security isn't."
My first impression when I saw that intro was that the person whose throat gets crushed is suppose to be the protaganist (just starting out in adventuring). Probabaly it may be a troubling dream that the protaganist experiences of what might happen, of candelkeep no longer being safe...of the need to escape from candlekeep. And I guess that means that person would be another child of bhaal.
Yin and Yang balance. There is one within the other. No Difference in Reality. What do you experience?
The fighter with the crushed throat is probably a flaming fist soldier and definatly another child of Bhaal.
Sarevok says "I will be the last and you shall go first".
This meaning Sarevok will be the last standing Bhaal-spawn and he (Fallen fighter) will die first.
The fighter also states "there are others I can show you", probably how Sarevok found the protaganist.

The Drow rule supreme!
Yeah I had forgotten about the dream, but isn't it one of the protagonist's tutor's who has it?Originally posted by Lorsadan:

It does seem a bit weird that Sarevok should consider him to be a threat doesn't it?Originally posted by Tyco:
It makes sense that it would be another Child of Bhaal from the dialogue. However, if that is so then Bhaal must be so embarrassed to have such a cowardly and driveling offspring!

Sarevok did not kill the bhaalspawn from the opening movie of BG1 because he was a threat. Sarevok killed him to claim more of Bhaal's power. Throughout the series there has been a prevailing idea that the last bhaalspawn left alive would get to have Bhaal's power.

Craig, do you mean that the guy getting thrown off the roof was Veikang (there are plenty of other evil Bhaalspawn around to have given him grief)?Originally posted by craig:

yes a tutor of the protaganist had a bad dream about the protaganist. So the intro could be a bad dream about what may occur if the protaganist was to stay in candlekeep until saverok arrives and throws him off of the roof. After all your charactor starts out at level 1, and does not gain much experience until after leaving candlekeep.

Bioware was very careful -never- to have the protagonist rendered in any of the movies, given the mind boggling amount of combinations of gender, racial, and class appearances. Therefore, the intro movie cannot be a dream about the protagonist getting killed. It could be a dream about another child of bhaal getting killed, but it's more likely not a dream at all and just a brief mood setting cinematic.

Information about Viekang and various other loose ends is included in ToB, but no, that wasn't Viekang on the roof of the iron throne. You know, on account of the guy on the roof -dying- and all.

To Metraton;
I agree that it sets the mood, but who is that guy that gets thrown off the roof? Dreams are prevalent in shadows of amn, were they really that careful from the start from baldur's gate 1? I'm saying this because there is no clear conclusion on who those people sitting in the round table in the end movie of shadows of amn are.
