Icewind Dale 3

Post by ammama »

hi im pretty new here and was wondering: what do u most like bout IW2, and hate. what do u change if there is IW3? do u no any mods that already do this?

1. Me i like roleplaying, and IW2 is WAY too linear. i wish there were alternative plots or other ways of doing things that actually had long term affects.

2. i wish there were npcs along the way that cud join u. then agen this mite be a bit stupid since u cud just create them instead

3. i wish there was more armour and shields and helms in game that were magical AND decent. there is pretty much nothing there worth it meaning helms do pretty much nothing, armour is boring, and shields are useless makin vry1 go 2 handed or dual

4. I wish there were more types of weapons and that they were more balanced. everyone seems to have the same weapon in mind to use at the end so they take profficiency in great axe to get massive gr8 axe of fire or paladin long sword to get holy avenger. there are no gd missile weapons. i wish they had weapons like shuriken, or duble sided axes, or stuff like that

5. i wish u cud hav familiars or pets or sumthing. dont ask y. i like animals

6. i wish o wish they wud balance out the classes. ranger is crap. how come he cant do better stuff. paladins are like fighter/clerics. y cant rangers be like fighter/druids.

7.i wish wild shape was better. its sux in iw2.

8.i wish they had more classes. they hav a gr8 selection of races, though only a few classes. y no prestige classes.

9.i wish they wud sort out half elves. id luv to play as them but that wud be suicide.

there is nothing wrong with half-elves, i play them all the time.

the classes are great but kits (like from bg2) wud be welcome.

but what i wud want the most is a game with an actual PLOT!

Ammama, a little bit more exact punctuation, using capital letters and correct, whole words would make your post much more enjoyable to read ;)

Anway, I agree with you about the roleplaying part. I'd like to see more interesting NPCs with personal quests.

Also, it'd be nice to have more legendary items (not neccessarily weapons or armor, but any kind of special artifact - like the Heartstone Gem in IWD 1)

What I'd definitely keep is the gorgeous scenes and puzzles - I love challenges like the Ice Temple or the Fell Wood, where fighting alone will not save your neck, you have to use your wits, too.

I would like to see the character creation of NWN on IWD3. The classes are much more balanced and there are so many subclasses and feats and cool stuff on NWN :) Still I didn't enjoy NWN cause it had even less of those legendary items and less of the roleplay feeling on the quests. The thing I liked about BG2 was the cool quests for the weapons, like Crom Faeyr that had to be made from 4 parts that you found during the game. The sidequests were also so cool. Some new stuff could be cool too, like horses for example.
Oh and there is a mod called Icewind Gate that converts BG2 for IWD2 engine. So that means BG2 with 3E rules.. cool. What I have read about it, it's only on beta stage and it will never be completed but it should work fine. I'm going to test it once I get bored with IWD2 (not for a while).

Oh yes, BG2 scores again! Beside the incredibly adventurous main quests the protagonist was occupied by weapon quests, too... I remember I almost jupmed out of my skin when I got Gesen's Bow assembled at last :D

Yeah I was so exited too :) the greatest roleplay feeling of all time. BG2 is still the greatest. ToB was a bit disappointing for it's linear quest, although Watcher's Keep was cool. Higher levels for characters was also a good thing. Then they made IWD2 even more linear than ToB. They tried to do more sidequests on NWN but the feeling was gone. I wonder who was on the team that made BG2. Has it changed cause the atmosphere most definitely has. IWD3 should contain the same makers that original BG2 or 1 had. I wouldn't change the game to first person either. I don't know what you call the playing perspective on these games but it has it's own feeling to it. I liked it from the start when I first tried Fallout 2 years ago.

I think its all a pipe dream because the makers of IWD and BG are bankrupt and gone. The team who made the games no longer exists.

I loved the atmosphere and freedom of the IWD series to create the party of my dreams. (I mean that literally. I have often created parties in my dreams and then implemented them in the game.)

BG gives freedom in the game play plot, but restricts who and what gets to be in your party (making the only decent cleric in BG evil is not providing me with freedom). You have to select from a short list of NPCs. You can only access certain people at specific points in the game. Some party members don't get along with other party members. Some party members only come in groups. Party members constantly complain and even sometimes quit if your reputation doesn't suit them.

IWD (especially IWD II with 3E rules) allows me to create the party I wish I could have in BG and nobody complains.

You can download Icewind Gate from http://weidu.org/iwg2/, but you need to have both BG2 and IWD2. There are really good instuctions there how to install and everything. By the way Aldon you can create a 6 character party in BG2 if you make a multiplayer game and do all the characters yourself. I made a 3 character party and played it from BG1 to 2 straight trough with one weidu mod that converts BG1 to BG2 engine. It was absolutely great.
Oh yeah and I would like to see that too, that you could slaughter any person or a whole town and you wouldn't get a message that you have killed an importan character and you must reload. The ending could change from everything that you do. I don't know if that would be possible to make a game work that way.. but who knows.

yeh

what i'd luv is to be able to form more in depth relationships with NPCs. mebbe make them ur friends (or enemies). mebbe romance them. Sometimes i wish i could take sides in arguements and solve or augment ppls problems (for exp. both ways). I wish i could sort things out between Hedron and his Ma. I wish i could get into a bar brawl with Gulfthwe. stuff like that. I wish i could take the diplomatic route to solve the problem with the orcs of shaengarne, or that i could help them out against the villagers and plunder the spoils. Sum of this stuff isnt so gr8 but more roleplaying wud be gr8

Actually there is almost nothing bad in BG2. Only now that I have gotten used to 3E rules and character creation, cause it's so much cooler and has so much more variety than 2E, I got bored with BG2 character possibilities. It's still a great game. Maybe the best.

NWN2 is coming out next year but it's a long wait for that one.. hope it's abit better than NWN1. Although NWN was a good game I didn't enjoy it as much as BG2 or IWD2. Hope they will bring something special in NWN2. BG and IWD both got better for the second part so I'm hoping for NWN to do it too :)

The thing about Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale II is that I think they're made more for the multiplayer experience. The exclusion of party NPCs encourages people to play with others, and the linear, combat-heavy plots and gameplay styles make it easier for multiplayer parties to decide on what to do.

That's how I see it, anyway.

Good call. Actually, Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale II are about 200% better when you play with other people, b/c you can't control every action, so you have to learn how they play to do really well. Especially in Heart of Fury Mode! That is hard!
