Constantine

Post by SheGamer »

Has anyone seen this moive yet? I really am looking forward to seeing it but I havent had the time yet. I did read some reviews that gave this movie some good reviews. My friends have been saying that the special effects were great and Keanu does a great job as John. Looks like it made over 100 million worldwide. Is it worth seeing?

Yeah, I saw it this past week, excellent movie IMO.

My reasoning behind my liking it was more of an interest in the spirituality of it though. The religious interpretation of things which were done within the movie.

It did have an interesting plot and some cool effects though, and wasn't one of those movies where you end up waiting for the exciting parts most of the time either. They did a good job with I think with that, the "plot" parts aren't too long and dry, they keep you interested just as much as the "action" parts. At least did for me anyways.

If you've seen previews and thought you'd like what you saw chances are you'll like the movie. I found it more amusing than anything because of how the Christian religion and mythology was manipulated in it though.

I'm gonna see it on Saturday. Apparently it hasn't got much to do with the Hellblazer comics which I'm such a fan of, but hey, at least they tried. I have a hundred objections to the film, the most prominent being the casting of Keanu Reeves, who IMHO can't act his way out of a wet paper bag, and the fact that Constantine is now a Yank, and the setting is LA. Oh well, at least we don't get to hear Keanu try his Brit accent, as he did in Dracula... Yes I'm looking forward to it. :)

Edit: I'm gonna see it tonite, as the wifey is suddenly back from Congo without prior notice. The gist of my married life...

HHooookay.... I normally find it beyond unspeakable to post two times in a row, BUT since I just came back from this one, I'll make a fetid exception:

The film was okay. It sure didn't show the gist of the utter despair and horror of the original comic books, but it gave an above-average input of geek satanism, witchcraft and Catholic doomsday myth. Keanu bombed as usual, but the rest of the actors did a cool job, and this is a million miles above yer average "Return Of Satan" pic.

BUT....

It still doesn't beat The Prophecy/God's Army, but then again, I didn't think it would. ;)

PM Fiberfar, too. He'll give you an out of the ordinary review.

From what I've heard the movie ate chocolate (as in it sucked ***).

But I haven't seen it, so I wouldn't know

No, it didn't. Trust me. If you're a fan of the comic books, it blows dog's balls, but as a stand-alone attempt, it's pretty brill.

(Just to put things in perspective, every single issue of the original Hellblazer series sits in my bookshelf breathing down my neck as I write this.)

I've never read the comics, so I wouldn't know about that. I just found the whole interpretation on the religious aspect hilarious. It made the movie for me I guess. Otherwise, it was just another decent action movie.

I think the movie sucked bigtime....

*spoiler*

Gabrielle (the angel) was a female, and not a male as the bible says. She tried to get the son of satan into life by stabbing a woman with the spear of Destiny. Finally, the movie was full of anti-smoke stuff. At the end of the movie John Constantine eats a anti-smoke gum instead of kissing the woman, which sounds like the logical thing to do.

Thus, I think it sucks, since they rewrite some parts of history, and make up new things.

I found all of that simply amusing and probably the only reason I liked it so much. I'm assuming you've read the comics too?
