I have asked this before but I want to start a new tread and get what I can out of it. I am building a new computer which should be done in a couple of weeks, (I hope). I have a currant BG2 game running with throne of Bhaal installed. Also about 12 or so mods.
Should I just reinstall everything and copy saves?
Dragon Wench said something about a cable from one computer to another and then transfer data?
Some said something about a using my drive as a slave drive then some sort of file transfer after backing it up?
What would be the best method here. Thanks for anything
My new P.C. is going to rock, that is for sure, and at that My gaming is going to S c R e A m M m ! ! !

Techinically, they are all the same methods.
1. If you connect your computers, you need to make sure both have network cards and that you have the correct cables required. If you have a hub/router, you still need the cables but do not need a network card. As for wireless, it does work, but I would not recomend it.
2. If you want to move around hard drives, that involves good knowledge of computers, and is quite risky for a novice. You can easily fry the harddrive by moving it or damaging it, as you must open the case and remove the harddrives.
3. The easiest way by far is to simply copy the files onto a cd or usb drive. This is simple to do, and no risk is involved.
All that said, if you are keeping both computers going, I would suggest setting up a network, as it allows easy interaction between computers, and can allow you to play games against each other, without using internet access.
Whatever choice you make, good luck.

In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.
I recommend the following.
First of all, saved games are not always compatible with every installation of the game if you have installed any mods. Apparently, the order in which you install the mods affects the line reference numbers in the DIALOG.TLK file, so unless you install EXACTLY the same mods in EXACTLY the same order, you might have problems with the dialogue. Weidu Mods might not have this problem, but I've seen it happen with non-Weidu mods.
Second of all, you can copy your game directory from one hard drive to another and it will run just fine. If you do that, then you can be sure that all of your saved games will work on your new computer. The only drawback is that registry entries will not be present on the second hard drive, and third-party programs will not be able to automatically find your game directory. There might also be legal problems with copying a game from one hard drive to another like that.
So here's what I recommend. Install Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal from scratch on you new hard drive to create Registry entries and avoid any appearance of software piracy, then delete everything in your game directory (leaving the folder intact) and copy everything into it from the game directory on your other hard drive. Your game should work perfectly if you do that. Just keep in mind that you're talking about moving 3-5 gigabytes of data from one hard to the other.
Good luck!
