Troll attack quest: charmed knight.
Troll attack quest: charmed knight.
hello from Russia..
i have a question about troll attack quest: one guy said that when he was fighting charmed knight at the 1st floor (ground floor, then 1st, right? - we have another system) he (guy) casted improved charm or smth like this and then the knight stopped fighting, said thanks, gave some weapon and party gained some exp. After spells time was over, he attacked again the party.
did anybody have smth like this? or he is, hm, not "correct?"
thanks

I know the knight you're talking about is a guy by the name of Glacias, and he's on the upper floor.
A charm spell definitely makes the target hostile after it wears off. That's pretty much how they work. I've heard accounts where a person would have a party member cast 'Hold Person' on Glacias and then charm him. Overall, I don't know what to say

You are referring to Glaicas. He was a loyal servant of De'Arnise Keep until he was put under a spell by the trolls. It is a shame to kill him, since he is acting against his will.
You can remove his curse if you can successfully charm him, but it is not easy. I think there is a bug in the program. One method that usually works for me is to have Jaheira (or another Druid) cast Call Woodland Beings. A nymph will appear, and she can use a spell called Mental Domination. If you cast that spell on Glaicas BEFORE you attack him, he should be restored to his normal self. However, he is likely to make his saving throw and resist the spell, so you might cast Greater Malison before the nymph casts Mental Domination.
Glaicas will thank you for saving him, and then he leaves because he is so ashamed of himself for serving the trolls. He is supposed to give you a flail head for the Flail of Ages, but because of a bug in the game, he sometimes runs off with it. I don't know if the official Shadows of Amn patch fixes that problem, but I think it is fixed if you install Throne of Bhaal.
Good luck!

It was more for the protection of other readers. You can't entirely be sure if someone will read that and... well, spoil the surprise.

I've managed to charm Glacias with the strangely erronous ring of Earth Elemental Charming. Still the flaw in the programming of the game prevented him from becoming dispelled like he should have and he just tried to kill me afterwards anyway.
I imagine that if one fired a charm spell and then used dispel fast enough in quick sucession then it could work...

[QUOTE=Qwinn]I've tried charming him a million times, and have never ever been able to get this to work. He always turns green, not blue, and I cannot initiate conversation with him. I always wind up having to kill him, which sucks.

Have you tried dispelling the charm, right after you succesfully cast the spell? Or just waited until the end of the duration?

The thing is if anyone has noticed, after charming Glacias pay careful attention to his feedback circle, if he's charmed he will turn green then blue for the split most second while the scripting works then green again as it fails.
Ideally if he's somehow hostile again before the blue circle activates then he'll turn neutral towards the party, otherwise the charm spell used will override his script.
~
Personally I kill him, full plate mail sells quite nice and it's not worth all the trouble really; shouldn't the Baldurdash patch fix this quest though?
