Massive slowdown on Dantooine

Post by justabeginner »

Hi, is anyone else getting massive slowdowns on Dantooine? I've turned off AA, shadows, grass...everything, have low texture detail and yet my frame rate is like 1 every 5 seconds. After a while my character gets stuck on the spot and can't run anymore, I can only turn on the spot.

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB, 1GB of RAM and an AMD XP 2500+ processor.

hm, just was on dantooine today.

didnt had any "lag" or sumthing there.

i got ATI radeon 9550 sapphire, athlon64 3000+ and 512DDR-Ram.

so u turned everything to off??
hmm... is it everytime u play this, or did this just happened once?

wut i found out, maybe all of u will know it. that when the game loads a new scene for example when you spoke to sum npc which guides you to another area, the game doesnt crash. but sumtimes when u change areas on your own it crashs. HATE THIS. and theres some patch for european version. puts game from 1.0 to 1.0a:

helps: not really

Hi Goldenwarrior. I have patched my game to 1.0a. It is strange you don't get those slowdowns, but then again my game doesn't crash when I change areas. This game is soooo buggy

All of the Radeon "fixes" from KOTOR also apply to KOTOR2.

That's strange, really strange. You've got a better PC than me on all subjects and still I can run on Dantooine on high res with nearly all options turned on without even a framedrop?

Do you have the latest drivers for your ATI?

Go to configuration settings file.
Add Line "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" under graphics options

and yes, that games is really buggy.

have u ever had this thing, when the floors and walls are gone, and your charakters are standing in the air?

If your card rated as "yellow" you could ask for details and find out exactly why. My laptop plays the game just fine (after the Vertex fix) but the Radeon built into it rated "yellow" because the game didn't like the version of the drivers. Easily fixed. But my laptop isn't intended for gaming in the first place, so I don't care.

me too!!

I am having the exact same problem. I don't think it's my computer, cause it's new and totally pimped out. I think Mojo's suggestion might work, but I don't understand how to do it. Where can I find the configuration settings file? Please help!!!

Ok, now I'm really in need of some help. After my problems on Dantooine I decided to shut everything down and restart my computer. So after I did I was then completely unable to get KOTORII to start up again. I'd click on it, and I'd hear the disk start going, but then the game would minimize itself. I'd try clicking on it and the screen would get all black (I'm assuming from trying to start the game again) and then it would minimize itself again. Nothing I did helped. So then I decided to just uninstall the game and install it again. Maybe it was a bad original install or something. Well now I can't even get the game to install. I'll get through the first few disks and then when I insert the next it won't continue installing. I hear the disk start going, but it doesn't continue installing. Please somebody help me. I am so frustrated right now I am near tears. I don't know what's wrong. I wasn't connected to the internet during all this, and I had no other programs running. Like I said before, my computer is awesome, and I've never had trouble running high-performance games before. Sorry this is so long, but I'd really appreciate any help!! It's times like this I actually miss my computer whiz ex-boyfriend.... Please help!!!

Hey, thanks so much for your reply. It sounds like that might work, but the problem is I don't understand what to do. Could someone explain it in layman's terms for me? Also, will that enable me to install the game again? Or is that just a fix for the Dantooine problem? Cause I still can't get the game to install.... <sigh> This sucks.

To clarify:
I did this----

"If you don't know how to do this, you can download a zip file containing the expanded .DLL here (paste into your address bar, don't link to it or it won't download):

but am unsure where to go from here, especially since I don't have any KOTORII file to put anything into. Sorry to be such a pain.... Thanks in advance for any help.

This patch only fixes language errors etc. not in game issues. No patch for that yet.
