Aerie died :(

Post by Chrizum »

Hey, I got a huge problem! :P

Aerie died, and she died good. I can't resurrect her anymore with my harper spell and with my raise dead spell. Also temples aren't able to bring her back. I used the createitem cheat to make her, but then she appears as big knight, only saying one line, and she can't join me anymore. I NEED HER IN MY PARTY :P

anyone has a solution, or is restarting the only option?
thanks in advance

From the sound of it, your best option is to either reload a file before her death (if you have one) or restart.

Besides, if your character was romancing her and her body was destroyed, the romance is likely over unless you know how to reset the romance scripts (which I don't know how to do).

Overall, restart or reload, I'd say.

Ok, thanks, I thought as much. But, if she just dies, and I revive her, is the romance over then too, or only when she's smashed to pieces?

I agree with Galuf- she's probably gone.

What I really want to know is how did you get her so dead?

A fight with the woman who calls up 2 vampires in the first town. She had -12 hitpoints or something.

I don't think that should make her anything other than "normally" dead. I wonder why she ended up as "irrevocably, can't be raised, beyond a shadow of a doubt" dead. Usually that kind of stuff only happens when you are disintigrated, turned to stone and smashed, etc.

Was she poisoned at the time?

Those instances do happen, but I've had times where I've had a character that died of massive damage and their corpse exploded. Ouchies. :o :(

Yeah, I hate it when NPCs explode upon dying. From my experience, however, their character portrait is removed from the sidebar if they die in such a gruesome fashion. Is Aerie's face still on the sidebar? Or maybe she can't be resurrected normally b/c she's an avariel elf?

When the portrait disappears, the romance is over. So whether she is kicked out of the party, turned to stone or brutally killed she don't love you anymore.

Her portrait is still there, yes. That's weird. But it indicates she has -12 hitpoints or so, so maybe her body indeed did explode or something :p

Obviously something is stuffed up, have you tried casting any healing spells on her. Perhaps when you cast the spell the health will go back to 0 and then you can raise her, I believe it is worth an attempt.

I'm unable to cast any spells on her. Is there any cheat to reset a character to 0 hp or resurrecting her whatsoever? Else I'll just start over. I saved over my files, so I can't use an earlier one.

Not so. At 0 to -9 hitpoints, a character can be brought back by Raise Dead. At -10 and below, they are fit only for mulch.

Have you tried Shadowkeeper, the BG2 editor? I can't say I have, but it may let you bring back the dead or even the disintegrated. It's at least worth asking around about it.

So is getting negative hitpoints not a stuff up. I have played through and I don't think I have ever been negative. Oh well, maybe I just missed it.

Lets take an exemple :

Aerie is at 12 HP, and a golem hits her. The golem roll 16 damages.
12 - 16 = -4. Aerie is dead, but can be resurected.

Aerie is at 2 HP this time, and the same golem hit her again for 16 damages.
2 - 16 = -14. Aerie is dead, and can't be resurected.

I believe this rule apply only on a certain difficulty level (Core and up maybe)

Aerie Died

Another possible factor may be that she is an elf (of a unusually different type to boot). An old, often missed, rule under AD&D is that elven characters (or NPCs) may only be brought back from the dead with a resurrection spell. This is due to their longevity and ties to other world. The original rules in the spells section said that "Raise Dead" will not work on elves. That may explain her appearance but not coming all the way back. Her being at minus 12 hit points is probably a factor to that whole equation.

She can still be saved

A bit late, but you can revive Aerie by reading the reverse vampirism books found in the room you killed Bodhi. Read all books and visit the monks in docks district (as mentioned in the books), then off to Umar Hills again... (The reason you can't use Raise dead on her is that she's an vampire)
