Ranged Jedi [spoilers]

Post by the_limey »

I've searched around and can't find previous threads on this topic so here goes: How viable is a ranged/armoured jedi in TSL? I know many of the better force powers are restricted by armour but there are still a few light, dark and neutral powers available so alignment could be ambiguous, especially as I won't be relying on them any way. Battle precog will be wasted but I could avoid that anyway by not having any wisdom at all. Enemy jedi will be less of a problem with high attack rating and precise shot.
Can anyone see any real drawbacks with this char? Comments, suggestions or just slagging off wil be aprreciated

Drawback: a strength-based melee character is capable of dishing out a lot more damage in one blow.
Another one: you're going to waste one hell of a lot of feats on those ranged things.

Waste? How so if the whole point of the build is to make a ranged character? As I really should have stated in my opening post I wanted to make a ranged jedi so that the combat in TSL is actually challeging as opposed to a complete no-brainer.

Well, 'waste' in the context of 'spending'. 2 feats for close combat, 5 feats for precise shot. Weapon focus and 2-weapon fighting are also needed, but melee uses those too. But for melee, those feats are all. A melee character can dish out more damage, and get 7 more feats than your ranged character, which will probably tilt the scales in his direction.

Point taken, but I wouldn't consider them a waste as I would be spending on few other feats ie: no toughness- dont need the hitpoints; no duelling/dual-wield if I go for rifles; class-skill feats and those that increase skills aren't needed as I'll use my allies. The only other avenue of feats I would consider are the special attacks and I think as a g/wm I should have plenty of spare feats wouldn't you say?
As for your point about melee damage, I fully agree but again, I'm purposefully trying to make the game harder for myself as this wil bee abou the 8th time through (yes I do have too much time on my hands)
