The museum quest

Post by s.weasel »

The prince tells you not to kill anyone.
In the walkthrough it says if you kill a policeman you will not het the extra 2 xp. points at the end.
What will happen if I jump in the room and kill all the policemen? Will I only lose the 2 xp. points at the end or will I have to go through the quest from the start?

guards guards!

it is really quite difficult to avoid killing guards - they are so aggressive!
I managed it with my gangrel by sneaking down as far as security - shooting the camera guarding the security post and letting them chase me back into the museum. the guards are not as quick as you are and you can get them away - I then sneaked back and into the security post to disable the cameras - from there you need to go on and you will get attacked by the second security post but if you trace/raven the guard you can turn off the alarm and beams and leg it again.
I got through with no casualties and taking almost no damage.
I suppose you could partially drain a guard if you wanted to.

once you have one casualty you might as well have a whole load as there is no distinction between one or a massacre.

Well, thats my problem mainly
I can sneak, partially drain or trance - brainwipe the guards, but when I try to turn off the security cameras, they always see me and shoot at me...
MAybe I will try to to finish the quest without shutting off the cameras....

shoot and run

blasting the cameras seems to prevent a general alarm - shotgun usually reduces them to spare parts.

I think turning off the cameras is better than not - if the guard chases you and you elude him - say running somewhere and then trancing/night-winging him - you can get back and turn them off. I think it is probably important to get rid of the camera near their booth.

The choke point here is the downstairs security booth. If you can sneak into the security booth and shut down the cameras, then you can do the whole thing without being spotted and without setting off an alarm. The problem is, that in order to avoid the guard in the security booth, you need to have a high stealth/dexterity (and I mean HIGH).

When heading down the stairs towards the security booth wait for the roving guard to wander buy. He takes two minutes to make a full circuit, so you've got some time. Listen to the camera sound. If you time it right, you can zip out and get underneath the camera before it turns and spots you. Wait for the camera to rotate away from the guardroom door and then sneak in. If your stealth is high enough you can approach the computer, hack it, and shutdown the cameras without being spotted by the guard.

Needless to say, Obfusticate makes this part of the mission a whole lot easier.

You can do the same thing without much Sneak if you're Tremere or Ventrue by Trance'ing the guard in the booth.

He'll probably wake up while you're hacking the cameras and shoot you.

When you're done you can use him as a blood pack, then Trance him again, run upstairs and stay Sneaked for a minute or two.

Blowing out the cameras is a decent idea, if you can do it smoothly enough. Otherwise, you'll probably need to rely more on timing than shutting off the computer.

The other thing to keep in mind is that it doesnt' matter if the alarm goes off and you get spotted. The trick is just to avoid killing them. So if you have disciplines that can keep them distracted for a while, use them. You can simply run around and try to avoid them as they are trailing you (use celerity if you have that), once you pass through the combination door they will generally avoid you. My point being, that if you're not a sneak build character there are still ways to get around the place without killing anyone.

I have 1 sneak skill, and I got past the guard in the computer room by just sneaking past him :p
I stayed low, hacked the computer, put the camera's off and got away.
Dunno why he didn't see me tho, I didn't use any disciplines...
I guess i got lucky :)

Being a combat area though if the guard is shooting at you and you feed from him, he will not go all tranced when you pull out your fangs. Instead they recover right away and start shooting you again like nothing happened. If your playing through as a Malkavian, you can send guards into fits of laughter that can last long enough for you to hack computers or even if your Obfuscate level is high you can become invisible and move past the more guarded areas. Thats what I did and used a blood pack when I got low on blood.

Malkavians and Nosferatu will have no trouble with the museum. Obfuscate makes what is difficult for other clans, quite easy.

You could simply just blaze past the guards, taking their fire. It can get a bit hot, so do this only if you have high Stamina, Bloodshield or Fortitude. The only difficult bit will be hacking a certain computer to get a certain security code.

My malk obfuscated for the museum. When I walked through the laser beams and set off the alarm, I used hysterics on the guard holding the key. He dropped the key and no one got hurt.

Well that last hallway with the laserbeams and such, you can as a Malk or Nos, take out the window before hand at the security room, be invisible as you hop through and hack the computer.

Know what combat option would have been really fun? Knock outs. Perform a stealth move where you put a guard to sleep or like Metal Gear Solid, punch the guard out so he is dazed for like 5 minutes or so... yeah that would have made things easy.

Well I tried doing all of these, but whenever I got near the computer the guard spotted me.
When you trance them , they wake up in 5 seconds and start shooting at you,so it's near impossible to hack the computer
So I took out my knife and gutted all the police on theat floor. I didnt get the extra xp points but at least it fell good :D

To get better sneak at crucial points you can also just use Blood Buff... It isn't only for lockpicking you know... :)

The laser beams are actually pretty simple to deal with. Just take a swing at the panel at the beginning of the laser beam hallway. The lasers will start flickering on and off. Move carefully through them. No problem. No need to deal with that last security room at all.

Well I never took swings at the wall as I was trying to be as quiet as possible to get past the guards. Plus using the computer room you can unlock the doors you otherwise have to deal with the last guard to get the key for.
