hi,
I am doing the puzzle box quest, have found the box on the bottom shelf but no matter which position I'm in I can't seem to be able to pick it up. Any solutions would be great. thanx.

Once I headed to the ruins before initiating the Blades quests and I decided to grab the cube while I was there. The same thing happened to me, I couldn't budge it. But once I actually got the quest from Caius I had no problems.

Oops.. I meant to say Hasphat and not Caius... Sorry about that.
Still though, it's the same thing if you have officially received the quest..
Unless you have a bug of some kind it doesn't make sense.
Are you certain you have clicked on *all* the possible dialogue options with Hasphat? Some of them can be easy to miss.

Somebody else may be able to help in terms of dealing with the patch.
But since you are on PC, there is another solution, and since you have attempted to actually do the quest, it is not really cheating.
Try the following:
1. While playing your game, open up your Console by pressing the ~ key, it is usually on the far left of your keyboard next to the number 1.
2. A little box will appear, type in the following, exactly as written below:
'player -> AddItem "misc_dwrv_ark_cube_00" 1'
Note the "00" after "cube_" refer to the number zero, not the letter "O"
3. Press the Enter key
The cube should now appear in your inventory.

That is the exact ID code for the puzzle cube, I looked it up in the construction set. Moreover, I just loaded up my game to test it out, and it worked without a problem. I now have a Dwemer puzzle cube sitting on my bookshelf as a result.
*shrug* So if you couldn't get the cheat codes to work, maybe somebody else will have a suggestion or two. Though I advise you don't mess about with their user names, it doesn't exactly predispose people towards feeling helpful.

The problem might be the ' ' around the code there....type just this in after bringing up the console...
player -> AddItem "misc_dwrv_ark_cube_00" 1
The console is very picky at times, so just hit ~, put that in and hit "enter" and you should get the item you need.
I haven't really done any quests in the game so I can't help there. I have absolutely no clue who or what your talking about. I just kill people.

"You can do whatever you want to me."
"Oh, so I can crate you and hide you in the warehouse at the end of Raiders?"
"So funny, kiss me funny boy!" / *Sprays mace* " I know, I know, bad for the ozone"
