Best armor for who? A Thief? A cleric? A fighter-mage? That will make a big difference. :/

And I don't know about the bow, I have never used bows EVER in BG2 (or real life, for that matter)

Gesen bow is good, but Tuigan is fast. I guess they are the best bows avaiable in the unmodded game. The tharalax bow (or sg) comes in ToB but its too late - where bows arent really of a huge help.

If you have an Archer (cant use iron armor), the Armor of Thorns (tob) and the Night Gift or Aeger's Hide may help you defending against atacks. Aegers hide has some interesting resistances. If you have already killed the shadow dragon, use his scales to make the best leather armor in the game in my opinion. Well, that armor really looks cool on your pc :D

I don't think a mage can use a short bow without some mod. Tuigan's Bow gives you an extra attack per round, but it's only +1. (In the hands of Mazzy it can be a butt-kicking bow).

Best armour for a mage, or anything related to a mage, is the Robe of Venca.

This robe lets you cast faster, gives armour equivilent to scale mail, and heaps of other stuff.

However this robe is only available in the Bonus Merchants.
If you don't have that you can download it here at GameBanshee.

There is the link.

As for the bows I would agree that the Tuigan or Gesen bows are the best.
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.

The Gesen bow gives you unlimited +4 enchanted arrows and electrical damage! (remember in order to let it work, you have to unequipt all arrows)

It's one of the few items that can deal damage to Kangaax (the other is the holy avenger). PLUS: its electrical damage can penetrate stone skins. Mages without PMW are doomed.

Need extra attacks per round? get the boots of speed + improved haste.

I have a kensai/Mage who also uses the Robe of Veccna, it's armor class isn't that good but the other mods are just too good to miss out on. I think the Bladesinger Chain (which you only find at the end of SoA) has quite a better AC, and still allows you to cast spells (<3 elves)

Edit: (spoiler)I thought that the 'improved-item-Daystar' and Crom Faeyr could also hit Kangaxx...

Actually there are quite a lot of weapon in SoA that can hit Kangax, any weapon with +4 or more enchantments suits the job.

I would use either the Short Bow of Gesen or Tansheron's Bow, which doesn't require ammunition, for Imoen and the Robe of Vecna is definately the best choice for a mage's "armor" because you cast faster, lower your AC, and you get 10% magic resistance.

Complement with Bracers (AC 3) from Adventurer's Mart to get your AC even lower.
