Where are you in BG2 right now? (spoiler warning)

Post by Thrifalas »

This is a thread where you can describe what you're currently doing in Baldur's Gate. Where you are, what characters you have, if you're found something interesting while playing it, and so on. Give eachother tips about what's working real nice, and if they're wondering something about the game, about a place you'll soon reach and they don't want to play the game from the beginning just to try something out, they can ask. Use your imagination. :)

Of cource, there will be spoilers, thereforethe spoiler warning in the tag.

Me, I'm currently trying out how good a blade can be, after hearing Astafas statements that it can challenge such warriors as the kensai/thief and so on. I hate playing without a thief, so I grabbed an Assassin and went for 2 characters this time.

It was pretty hard in the beginning, as I had very few spells, but now I havn't played many games in which I slaugher this hard.

I've been trying to use deffensive spin some too, and it's almost as usable as the offensive one. Especially in combination with a thief. The assassin is currently equipped with the Tunigan bow and Quiver of Plenty +1, which makes her pretty usefull while the bard is spinning the enemies around. :) Or, you can just run away, hide, backstabb, run away, hide, backstabb and go on.

And the Invisibility-spells are awesome in combat, as the bard easily can make sure that the next hit the assassin land deals 5x damage. :) (which together with Short sword of Mask +4 is quite a lot ~~)

Right now im on my way to asylum, just beating the hell out of some mists and shadows just outside. Im playing with a Generic Archer (from a mod, dont remember which one) solo. I've played through BG1 first, only for the sake of the stats :)

It might be necessary to describe the generic archer: He is almost like the Ranger kit, though he can put 2 stars into melee weapons, and he can be of any alignment he wants, this was a real must for me, since im going for the Human Flesh armor. So, a very interesting class, also dual-classing with him is recommended. It's a fighter kit.
Im equipped with Flametooth ( 14000gp :) ), with 5 stars in crossbows, and 2 in "two-handed weapon-style". 3½ attacks per round is pretty nice, but it isn't very easy anyway. In melee combat, i use halberds, just for the fun of it, and when i get the ravager, i will be pretty evil with it too.

Spoiler

Now, i guess i'll just hurry through the asylum dungeons and underdark, picking up the most important stuff, Cloak of mirroring, girdle of frost giant strength & bag of holding. When i get out of the underdark, im going for kangaxx. Right now, im at lvl 14, which isn't very much considering it's a solo, but i'll cope.

I've just brought Throne of Bhaal but since I haven't got any of my old saves I'm going through again for the nth hundredth time.

~

First game is most probably the most common choice, a Wild Mage and she's somewhere around Amn after doing trademeet. To tell the truth the wild mage is pretty entertaining when forcing surges; but beyond that I don't seem to use many spells while fighting in a party.

Secondly more entertaining is my solo thief/mage who is using a +1 Staff, a staff of striking (for massive backstabbing) and the Tunigan bow. He's about level 11/12 but has only rested once and has killed off the Slavers, everything in the sewers, the Circus and now is heading towards the docks.

I'm not sure where I'm taking this character since I think I'll get bored pretty fast since he gets powerful fast as a soloer.

I've never actually completed the game before, I usually get a new idea for a party about halfway through the game and start a new one, then after the third run through I get bored of it and quit for a while. Not this time, though. Right now, my party consists of my main character, a Sorcerer, Viconia, Jaheira, Minsc, Valygar and Yoshimo(to be replaced with Imoen after he turns on me.) Any time I make a good party, I just can't bring myself to turn down Jaheira and Minsc, and I usually take Yoshimo because I know I can just replace him with Imoen later, plus he's a great thief. I might make a good party without Jaheira and Minsc sometime, but not right now - I'm going to finish this game first.

As to where I am, well I've just saved Haer'Dalis and I'm on my way back to the theatre to do the planar prison. I'm still in chapter 2, and I'm pretty sure that this is the last non-character-specific quest I can possibly do before moving on. I'm trying to rest as little as possible this time through, and I think I'm doing pretty well - I haven't been counting, but I'm sure I haven't rested more than 10 times yet. Didn't rest once in Irenicus' dungeon, and the only quest I actually had to rest halfway through in was the Windspear Hills one, because of those damn Vampiric Mists with their level drain.

Warning: BGI spoilers!!!

I'm actually still playing BGI. Right now, my half-elven Fighter/Mage/Cleric is adventuring through Candlekeep. I have the BGII "default party" of Minsc, Dynaheir, Imoen, Jaheira and Khalid with me right now.

Things are going well, and I plan on conquering Durlag's Tower and Werewolf Island after checking out the Iron Throne in Candlekeep.

I'm changing the title of this thread to make it clear it refers to BG2.

I'm in Chapter Six. I haven't done any major quests since leaving the Underdark, but there are several left to do, since I didn't do them in Chapter Two. I have, however, have done quite a bit of adventuring in Watcher's Keep since Saerileth led me there. I usually reserve Watcher's Keep for Throne of Bhaal, but I was supposed to find someone whom Saerileth was looking for, so I went looking for him and, contrary to my original plans, ended up completing the first four levels. At that point, I decided to create him with the CLUAConsole since I figured there was a bug in the game. Surely it isn't necessary to finish Watcher's Keep in order to finish Saerileth's quest.

I've killed Bodhi and restored Imoen's soul. Jan's personal quest led me to the Sea's Bounty, where the tavernkeeper gave Keto her invitation to the Bard competition. Since I'm heading for Umar Hills next, I talked to Delon to accept his quest.

Since I have the Lanthorn and my character needs to find Irenicus and get his soul back, I can't think of a good roleplaying reason not to return to Elhan immediately, but I'd be leaving more than half of the major sidequests untouched if I did that. In Chapter Two, I did the Copper Coronet quest, Nalia's Keep, and Windspear Hills. (I always pretend that I've found evidence that Firkraag was behind the attack on Nalia's Keep, so it made sense to do those particular quests.) Nalia's kidnapping led me to the Slave Lords, which wrapped up the slaver business, and I did some other minor quests before I left for Spellhold. Saerileth objected to doing Renal's quest, so I didn't finish it. I didn't even try to side with Bodhi in the guild war, so I sided with the Shadow Thieves (which is unusual for me). That still leaves Umar Hills, the Planar Sphere, Trademeet, the Astral Prison, and the Unseeing Eye, as well as the Gibberings Three Anniversary quest, which can be very time-consuming.

My party currently consists of a Cleric/Ranger, Saerileth (SK'd to Inquisitor), Keto (SK'd to Blade), Imoen (SK'd to Sorcerer), Jan (Illusionist/Thief), and Aerie (SK'd to Cleric/Illusionist). Yoshimo was in my party before Spellhold (SK'd to 7th Level Kensai dualled to a Thief). I originally had Nalia in the party (SK'd to Sorcerer), but I got tired of her. Imoen was a 9th Level Thief dualled to a Conjurer originally, and Jan was a single-class Illusionist, but I changed them to their current classes when I replaced Nalia with Aerie. I don't like to make big changes like that in the middle of the game, but I didn't want to restart just to replace Nalia.
Gibberings Three Anniversary quest

interesting party.

I've currently just arrived at Brynnlaw. Main char Thief 12 (dualled from Kensai lvl 13), Keldorn, Jaheira, Aerie, Nalia, Yoshimo.

My main problem to date has been using the Console to skip some of the infamous glitches in the Jaheira romance. However, I got it sorted just before heading off to Brynnlaw, so all's well that ends matted and sticky.

Second biggest problem has been how totally useless my character became after dualling. As a Kensai, he was a killing machine, now he can't hit a barn door with a banjo, even at 12th level. Hence I am totally XP hungry right now.

The main reason for this choice of class was to get to grips with Thieving skills (not played one before) and see if it makes a good combo with Kensai (not played one of them either).

There's a thread covering various problems I encountered plus some gratuitous blogging
here .

I'm in the main city, not really doing much. I think I'm in chap 2. Yeah, I am. I'm thinking about doing Heir'dalis's (sp?) quest for the experience. Otherwise, I'm going to start the whole Shadow Thieves bit.

Right now my char is a lev 8 fighter duel classed over to a cleric. At the moment I think he's lev 10 or 11. With me I have Minsc, Chloe, and Jaheira, and Nalia. I haven't gotten Imoen back yet.
I wanted to change my sig, but I can't think of anything to change it to :(

I have a inquisitor, a swashy dualled to mage, and a cleric/ranger multi. I'm having lots of fun trying a smaller party - already the two dragons are no more, and several of the in-town quests are done. Still to do: kangaxx, twisted rune and the battle for celestial fury, plus H'D in the astral prison. I think everything else is done, so I may just head over to brynlaw sooner, rather than later...

Bards! I don't understand how little credits I've given them compared to what they deserve. I've just gotten Tenser's Tranformation, and whoa. Still dual wielding FoA +3 and Foebane +3, but together with Off. spin and Tenser I'm up at ~240hp, the THAC0 of a fighter at that level, hasted and dealing maximum damage with each hit.

That, and I'm immortal untill I've run out on Iron Skin and Mirror Images (they're instant), plus healing potions. This guy's a pure killing machine. :)

If you havn't played a Blade yet, go try it. Never knew Astafas could be this right. =)

I am now at the beginning of ToB - in my pocket plane. And I am having fun watching my NPC duel each other!
Haer VS Jaheira, Korgan VS Mazzy, Edwin VS Aerie in spellcaster duel.
You should really try these fights!

I am now thinking about 2 on 2 fight. (THough it will be difficult to control 4 characters - since they do not "see each other as enemies")

btw, when I was in Asylum, I found out an interesting thing:
Do you remember the girl, who always sees something? Irenicus said that she "sees through the planes". Well, I found out that her voice is really Aerie's!
They used the same actress.

Aphril, isn't it?

Anyway, I think they used the same voice actors/actresses in quite a lot of places during the game. There's very many characters you don't meet more than once and therefore doesn't remember the name of.

And I'm terrible with voices. Didn't even notice that Irenicus was the... "Cowled Wizard" that guides you through. And his voice is something out of the ordinary (GREAT acting on that one)

Currently playing with my new party :

- Swashbuckler/Cleric (!!! That's the Fighter/Thief/Cleric class I always wanted !!!)
- Minsc (SKed into a barbarian ... fits him more than Ranger IMO)
- Cernd (Backup frontliner (Werewolf) and Healer (Human form)
- Tsujatha (For romance... gonna get him as soon as possible)

A little question : Should I get Valygar, or will this slow down my exp earning speed too much? I would use him with Katanas and possibly longswords.. since I have no one to take care of this (powerful) weapons class.

Currently doing major (easy) quests outside Athkatlah (sp?) ... De'Arnise Castle, Umar Hills, etc.

Oh... and for those that wonder... Swashy/Cleric are GOOD! Great Thac0 (Add Draw Upon Holy Might and Righteous Magic, and you're a real tank!), spellcasting abilities, will be more than enough for thieving skills (120 in both Detect traps and Lockpicks), great AC (Dex Bonus, Swashbuckler Bonus and Full Plate Mail is gonna give me a good AC) I may also use a shield in SoA to be sure I won't be hit too often...

Playing a Paladin. Have Jaheira, Minsc, Yoshimo, Aeire, & Anomen. I am in the midst of 5 or 6 (at least) city quests simultaneously. I keep acquiring them while trying finish others. I have finished the Darnise keep quest. Have also finished many city quests. My main focus at present is the Unseeing Eye in the Temple District along with the Missing actor from the bridge district
**Spoiler**
Both must be resolved in the sewers under the temple district.

Having fun with it though. Is there any sort of preferable/recommended order to finishing them?
