Sword&Shield Prof. - Any mod to fix this?

Post by Cormac »

I just started playing BG2 and found that the sword&shield proficiency in its current form does not make much sense.

Why should one get a AC bonus against missile weapons? You don't use a shield primarily to block incoming missiles besides maybe covering behind it.

I think the bonus should more apply to your Melee AC. Does anyone know a mod which changes this or is anyone willing to build one?

It should not disrupt the game balance IMHO. I anyway always found the shield's AC bonus beeing underrated in AD&D.

Well, even if one does not use shield to block missiles you can assume this skill teaches you how to do this. I do not think there's a mod for that I'd break the balance of already too easy game, your characters with shields would be so good that there would be no point in playing one with single weapon fighting skill.

The extra chance (2 on 20 instead of 1 on 20) to deal a critical hit is IMO a good reason to go single weapon fighting insead of dual wielding or sword and shield.

But then you can't use a shield. ;)

IMHO, the best thing to do is decide what weapon (or weapons) you're planning on using, and then choosing the appropriate style to go with it.
