Dugeon Lords sucks
It really does, why would a business release a game that isn't even completed. It doesn't make sense to keep making new characters playing the same missions over and over again (when we get the new patch) or if you are playing the current version, get stuck because of a bug, then hope you saved at a previous point and play the mission all over again. I'd say about 40 percent of my missions can't be completed. I usually find alot of answers on this site, to which everyone has been really cool and helpful, thankyou . But making a game like this, then putting it out on market isn't "ok". I think the only reason I put up with getting ripped off is because I am a sucker for playing these types of games, I mean "dungeon lords" is a cool sounding name. But in the end guys, this game isn't worth all the time and energy invested. I bought this game under the recommendation that DW Bradley would deliver. But it is only half *ssed, this game has potential to be really good, but I am not gonna wait around and play the same missions over and over again until the game is working how it should be.
Gaming has been going down this road for awhile now. It really is amazing though, what they get away with or more precisely what we as customers allow them to get away with. For years, companies have put out half assed games but we continue to buy them. There's probably only two things we can do, stop buying from companies/brands that continue to put out shoddy product or be patient, read reviews, ask friends etc. and buy games that only get high marks. At this stage in the gaming industry lifecycle, it is strictly a buyer beware market.
For instance I LOVED the Raven Shield first person shooter game and in the demo and first part of the game it was ok because the competition was great. But in came Tormentium the infamous hacker and his sheep of I got no skillz so i must pay for my cheats losers and the game was ruined. In that case UBI didnt give a rats ass about the players once they got our money and would have solved the whole issue had they put in the recording feature they had done in Ghost recon. I can tell you this, other game companies may sucker me but UBI will never get another dime from me.
Anyway enough of my ranting. I feel your pain bud, in this game you are right and the fact there is no automap is a complete joke.

It is sad both on their part for releasing the game before it was ready and for us as the consumer having paid money to buy it, but hey, I find if you think of yourself as a beta tester it helps some, also the Patches are comming soon.
This game had/has a lot of potential, unfortunatly I doubt any awards will be won for this game because of the poor planning and too early of a release, to the programmers I know you have little control and it is more the publishers that should be skewerd. All in all I will still play and hold out hope that when and if there is a sequel they learn from their mistakes.

I must admit that I am also very disapointed by this game.
Not only are many of the promised features missing, there is no life outside the main quest and of course all those bugs.
Even worse, the official Forum has been down for nearly two weeks! Thank you for the excellent alternative here
Even though I am a sucker for Adventure games and, will continue to buy them in the future, I will seriously think about which Publishers I shall buy from in the future. I can only hope, that Dreamcatcher/HP will make it up to us gamers simerlarly to Ascaron with Sacred which not only quickly released patches but also added massively to the gameworld. That's an example to follow!

I agree with most of your posts and this game really reminds me of the game Pool of Radiance : Ruins of Myth Drannor by ubi soft. That one was full of bugs too and the patches didnt really help. This game has a really good potential to become somthing better, but in my opinion the game Gothic 2 and Morrowind 3 Elder Scrolls series was awsome and have beat this game in performance 10-1. There comming out with a new game called Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion thats going to be Great!!! You guys should look into it. Anyways that's my peace of mind.

I like the game, actually it is a good game. It is unfortunate that they released it before most of the bugs were licked. I hear the second patch is in the offing, to be followed by the third which will have the automap.
I think once this is done, the game will take it's place in good standing with RPGers.

screw oblivion!!!!
eh elderscrolls is getting old..... i am looking forward to the other title Bethesda is coming out with after oblivion.....Fallout!!!! i think i am getting tired of the archaic swords and sorcery stuff, i liked DL but, the bugs and patches broke me..... just got it refunded and ordering Restricted Area, futureristic post enviromental cataclysm( cyber punk genre).... then play it till fallout series what ever it will be comes out.... all i know is it would be cool if they make fallout where it was online, and you had to actually start in the continent you actually live in..... like USa or so on then find you way to others....but back to what i was saying.....I am done with DL

I really like the game so far. Yes, some things are truly frustrating, and for the record, this is the first time I've seen a game released only half done - missing features. Sure, I've seen "bugs". Things that were supposed to work, but were flawed. But never missing features, and so MANY missing features!
But still - I'm having fun. It's no Baldur's gate or Neverwinter, but it's got it's charm. I like being able to multi-class - cause it really stinks to have to choose whether to be a fighter or a mage or a thief, etc. I can cast spells, pick locks and still kick butt when needed. The interface is fairly easy to manage and understand, and you do have good control over your stats without getting too technical. I also love that I can up my stats at any time, not just when "leveling up". The story is decent, albeit a little hard to follow sometimes. It would help a lot if I had a way to go back and re-read conversations I've had previously.
Yes, this game should have NEVER left the door in the condition it is in. Still, the bigger problem was DreamCatcher "closing it's doors" so to speak. By taking down the forum, and not releasing any news at all, they have left us in the dust. I would have been very glad to wait for the patches if I saw them apologizing and working hard on getting fixes out. But they just crawled under a rock and hid instead.
- No automap
- No furniture in rooms
- Parry doesn't work
- Settings (no shadows, etc.) don't work
- Bonuses (+10 parry, heraldies,etc.) don't work
- Incomplete quests (Frybone, etc.)

ToEE was similar, except that many of the vaunted combat engine improvements that had gone missing from the initial release were hidden--you didn't realize they weren't working, until you played for a while and analyzed the game. It was also one of the buggiest titles I'd ever encountered. Then, there was Ultima IX, so intolerably buggy that Origin Systems released repeated patches and finally washed its hands of the title. KotoR2 is missing a good deal of gameplay and a lot of dialog, thanks to LucasArts pushing it out the door very quickly. And back in the day, Darklands, one of my favorite all-time RPGs, had to go through 8 separate patches before all bugs were fixed and everything worked as it should.
I do think Dreamcatcher has shot itself in the foot on this one, but HP didn't help matters with that comment in their readme file about "removing" automapping because of roleplaying concerns. They really lost some credibility--which hopefully will be regained with the next pair of patches. DL's basically a decent, fun game, an oldstyle CRPG: not innovative, but well-crafted. Too bad the bugs and missing features hide this, but I'm thinking the quality will shine through when the patches are released.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Guys I would suggest that these comments be directed to producers of the game. It does have many missing features however it would be greatly appreciated that people not rant and rave about the game. I would personally suggest give them the time to send out another patch and see how the game plays after that.
Till further notice this thread is closed, and it would be preferred if we could stick to the actually discussing the dynamics of the game. Thank you.
