Lion Mutilates 42 Midgets in Cambodian Ring-Fight
*snorts* Idiots. IDIOTS. It's not like getting a dog that's barking at you to back down. Lion's are one of the top predator's on the planet.
If you attack one of them, it will mutilate you and anything that happens to look/smell and act like you that is within it's vicinity on it's instincts as a predator and self-defense.
That poor kitty was used for greed.
What's next? Silver-back Gorilla's fighting one-armed men in Cairo? "Let's watch the monkey beat someone to death with his only arm as entertainment! "

I am sorry, perhaps I'm a bit of a bastard for saying so, but this just made me laugh very hard. What a complete baboons. And they thought they would win? It's just too sad for words; 42 midgets against one Lion, half of them die, a quarter gets severely injured and the Lion walks away. How idiotic can you be?

EDIT: Thanks for the edit, IK.
Many cultures have shown little regard for human life (and other life as well). The idea that watching others suffer is entertaining, has popped up in many cultures at many different times, in different forms. The reality TV shows we have in the Western world today, is an expression of the same drive.
In my opinion, the conclusion is that not one or two particular cultures, but the human being is not very nice and not very smart.

Remove the laugh part and I'm with you. Pathetic.

Add egotistical, arrogant and pompous and we're agreed. The fact humanity seems to think this planet is THEIRS and theirs alone brings me to such a rage sometimes.
Some days, I just wonder why animals haven't just raided houses across the world, killed humans where they sleep and gone back to how they used to live.
The fact that some people thought nothing of dragging that lion from it's home, setting it into an event like that, and forcing it in a fight to the death is dispicable. If someone dragged a human from their home, and dropped them into a ring for a fight to the death people would be up in arms wanting to smite the whole area it happened in. An animal though? Chances are people are saying "Oh those poor, poor people, what a wretched, scary animal that is."
Humanity has had the opinion anything they see they have a right to use, manipulate, own, and/or destroy upon a whim. If they have any form of living being around them, that happens to be in their way, they tend to kill it, or capture and enslave it. That kind of behavior, to me, makes the human species an evil, wicked species in the grand scheme of nature and this planet as a whole.

I have no pitty with those who chose to do that. I guess they all knew the risks of attacking a 330 - 550 pounds killing machine.

Exactly. The average, adult male african lion is 10 feet long from the nose to the tip of the tail, probably 5 feet tall, and roughly 400 + pounds from what I read. That means that lion could probably have simply lowered it's head a tad and clamped it's whole mouth around the head of one of those midgets.
Has anyone thought of what happened to the lion to end the fight? I guarantee those bastards shot him. Chances are it was planning on killing the rest of them after being attack by close to 50 people and dragged from it's home. I know I wouldn't be at all rational to begin with just being put in that arena, let alone surrounded by a jibbering crowd, bright lights and suddenly being attacked by that many people. I'd cruelly murder each and ever person who came after me and hit me. I hope the survivors end up getting infected wounds and die of gangreane.
What kind of person chooses to fight an animal, torn from its home and dropped into an area and just suddenly runs up to attack the thing for no reason aside from pride and money? That's just terribly, horribly wrong and evil.

Not only those who attacked and those who watched, but the goverment. They allowed the "match" to go on as long as they got 50% of the inncome
. Someone should feed the lion with the goverment staff.

Because other species, unlike us, do not kill unless they need food or are faced with immediate threat. The kind of long-term threat we put on all other species cannot be perceived by them, it's outside of how they think. Humans are totally unique in how we kill and torture others for fun or for fear of things that has not yet happened or that we just imagine.Magrus wrote:Some days, I just wonder why animals haven't just raided houses across the world, killed humans where they sleep and gone back to how they used to live.
I would have been an extremly stressful event for the lions as well as the 42 midgets. I never cease to be amazed how humans can find such cruelty entertaining. The fact that some people thought nothing of dragging that lion from it's home, setting it into an event like that, and forcing it in a fight to the death is dispicable.
Where did this violence culture come from? Did the early humans beings living at the savanna also entertain themselves in such ways? As far as I know, there is no evidence that they did. Also, not all human cultures have engaged in violence of others (humans or other species) as entertainment, it is related to some cultural factors that trigger this behaviour. Personally I believe it is easily triggered, the difficult thing is to create a human society that does not trigger this bloodthirst.Humanity has had the opinion anything they see they have a right to use, manipulate, own, and/or destroy upon a whim. If they have any form of living being around them, that happens to be in their way, they tend to kill it, or capture and enslave it. No, I don't think so. Early groups of humans hunted, and killed their foods themselves. They fought off predators. The repressed instincts involved with that is what causes this kind of behavior IMO. If you have the instincts to hunt and kill, you will have bloodlust. All creatures who prey on other creatures have it. Yet, those that hunt for their food have no reason to be cruel to others for the simple sake of cruelty. They release those urges while getting what they need to survive.

Very true, ugh. I'm just disgusted by that kind of thing. It's just like how people around me wonder why we have so many deer after having attempted to wipe out wolves so long ago. Umm, DUR. You screwed up a natural balance around you.C Elegans wrote:Because other species, unlike us, do not kill unless they need food or are faced with immediate threat. At first, I thought that article had to be a joke, just because it was so...objective and dispassionate. I mean, I believe in editorial detachment, but what about the ethical angle--the author could have asked for opinions from observers or commentators--or some concern for the victims (and the lion)?
I realize that the midgets were protecting their honor, but I'm surprised they didn't realize they would probably die if they tried to fight a lion. Maybe they figured that forty-two midgets taking on one lion would be like forty-two housecats taking on one midget. But it just doesn't work that way in reverse.

Like when people like Sytze say it makes them laugh very hard?
