War Witch Impossible

Post by JoeMolley »

Has anyone tried to become a War Witch for the sisterhood? It's fricking impossible. To become the witch, you've got to kill this evil witch named something like "Genoroxioua the Pox" or somesuch in the Vale of Ruin. She's pretty much like a supercharged Evil Dryad, which is to say, impossible.

How the hell can anyone kill her? Has anyone tried? She always entangles me, curses me with some curse that makes you paralyzed, casts that nether spell with the nasty gas cloud that follows you around, and summons wolves, skeletons, and beasts. She does these things ALL THE TIME. Plus, I've also got to deal with the regularly spawning baddies in the Vale of Ruin. If that doesn't seem impossible to you, realize that during the fight, I'll be paralyzed about 95% of the time.

See, I've got 17 ranks in Arcane, 12 in Celestial, and nothing from those two schools can help me. She's immune to fire and ice, so my best offensive spells are useless. I've tried the Ward of Petrification to no avail, and I have no freaking clue how to beat this.

Sorry I can't help you, cause I can't find Kaugris. the second quest that the sisterhood gives you. Could you tell me where he is if you can remember please.

ps. have you tried using lots of blast nova, that seems to do non-elemental damage

other wise try buying scrolls of summon undead, then she wont paralise you as she will be concentrating on them. (but you will need LOTS of scrolls if she summons her own minions)

Yeah, I've tried to use Blast Nova, but the delay you get from using it just ruins everything. Granted, using it will remove all her summons except the Beast, but she just paralyzes me and resummons everything.

Gah, the most effective thing I tried is spamming Flame Burst, but I've only got ~14 of those and her life bar looked something like this afterwards: (******************-) the asterisks show how much life she's got left.

Yeah, summoning seems like the only thing to try now. I think I'll try spamming summons as much as I can just before going in. I'm pessimistic, since her gas clouds cover a huge area and hurt quite a bit. I suppose Skeletons are the only option then.

Oh, and your query on Kaugris, he's located in the largish cubbyhole located just to the south of the eastern entrance to the Sagathian Moors.

Another thing you might try is the spell silence (celestial) if you can find it (good luck I havent got one of those)

Also locusts are a good way of preventing spellcasters from casting for a short time. (ie. go kill a fire drake, spend the xp on nether magic, buy or collect 30*(Blood Nectre, Putrid Flesh, Wyrm Gangre) mix and hey presto)

All constant dammage spells are good and does bezerk cause enemies to attack you with hand to hand?

I was not optimistic about killing the pox witch, having looked at this thread ahead of time. But when i ran into her i thought what the heck and gave it a go. Surprisingly, i just killed her. I tried everything i had but didnt die once - the main help i think being that gasmask you get in the lizard temple. Also the two cestial helpers were big help and she doesnt like lightning.

Something that might work here is to press the ESC key during combat. Enemies will stop attacking you, but the game won't really pause, so you can wait out spells that paralyze you.

Hey, good ideas all. What really gets me is that gasmask. You say it's in the Naga temple? where at? I thought I went through that whole area. Was it in the maze area with the poison spouts on the walls and the loose bricks you gotta push? Didn't figure that part out.

And: Yeah, the eastern entrance is the big entrance to the Moors. Go there, turn south and follow the wall away from the Moors. No matter what happens, just follow the wall. You'll reach him.

Yeah, the gas mask is exactly where you said it was. Just keep going through the maze until you find a lever (snake's head/tongue) you can pull. When you do, go to all the places that were dead ends before and one of them will have opened up into a room with another lever. Keep doing this until you find the last lever, and it will open the last dead end which will allow you to enter a room with some naga to fight and the gas mask in a chest.

As long as you're wearing the gas mask, you CANNOT be poisoned, and gas will not affect you.

'Silence' I found in Arindale but I can't find 'Ward of Petrification' anywhere.
Where did you get it ? Or are the traders random ?

It's really a "crystal of unpetrify." I'm pretty sure I bought a couple in the temple in Arindale. But they're not too useful against G the Pox, simply because she spams that gripping vines spell, and you probably won't be able to regenerate the crystals fast enough to keep up with her.

you will still be poisoned by direct contact of a poisonous attack, i.e. A bee stung, snake bite, scorpion pinch. Yo uare just inmune to Poisonous Gas...guess the 100% Pro Poison is broken...

Check out this page http://www.geocities.com/northern_games ... layer.html
as it has a link to a decent map made by a gamer like yourself in the warwitch quest. Hope it helps.

I think your biggest problem is the 17 and 13 skills in magics -- did you really see any difference going over like 10 in those? Enough to warrant the loss of enough XP to buy 50 other skills?

I know I never saw a benefit to going over 9 or 10 in magic skills.. there was just little or no improvement in the spells I cast.

I can't remember what the difference was with magic skills, i ended the game with 28 arcane though. Magic really saved the day quite a bit.

swcarter, I didn't have any "Crystals of Unpetrify." I actually did have 4 Wards of Petrification. I can't remember if it was Arindale or Fargrove where I got them. Probably in the Fargrove Monastery. I think they're level 8 celestial magic.

Anyways, I made it through the Pox quite easily when I went back and grabbed that gas mask. Extremely useful helm.

I killed the Pox girl for war witch without much magic at all and no gas mask. Took me a good long while and was really rough at times when rooted in place with the gas cloud creeping towards me. But When I could move I just kept nailing her with my nether impaler till she dropped. It seemed like she was immune to just about every spell I tossed at her.

Also about the having magic skill over level 10, on another character I got spellfire skill from wizard and had 20 skill in arcane magics. I noticed duration increases for stuff like ward of fire when I raised celestial magic from 10 to 15. I was able to do about 20 more damage from my spells than JoeMolley had posted under the show your character stats thread for his damage with 28 in arcane. Spellfire skill seemes to do the job nicely, unfortunately I was only able to get 10 skill in it before I finished the game.

wear the relic robes because they helped against the locus swarm attacks.
the gas mask protects against gas attacks.
pause, use e key when frozen, also after using healing spell or potion.
