Manveru's return to BG2 boards... :D and custom romances topic

Post by Manveru »

Ok, I have started new game in BG2 SoA (as always Manveru Telcontar FMC, Jaheira (romance option), Keldorn, Aerie, Minsc, Jan Jansen) - I expect to have ToB soon , so I will join to the happy community of Children of Bhaal that have completed saga - for now I'm in the second chapter doing quests , etc....

In the meantime I have compiled all things that I have in the topic of custom female romances for Kivan, Valygar , Edwin. I have the complete of tools needed now to make advanced multiparty dialogues - earlier I hadn't the tool that would allow some things like simultaneous discussion of several NPCs , now with new Cat's IDU 1.0.4 it is a piece of cake

Here is anything that I have got :

Valygar :

When asked about his past, VALYGAR is silent for a long time and his face becomes grim. He explains briefly that he is the last of the Corthala noble line, a family that was once one of the wealthiest in Amn. The Corthalas have always been cursed with magical ability, however, and Valygar spits the words with great derision. Every Corthala who has used their magical talents has become obsessed with them and ultimately come to a grievous end. His mother was the most recent victim, although the ranger does not elaborate on the point. Valygar intends to fulfill his family's oath to find and destroy their ancestor, Lavok, and then he intends to let his cursed bloodline die out once and for all.
-----------------------------------------
a possible "Decision Dialogue", for when the PC has to finally choose between Anomen and whoever.

A: Enough of this! I can no longer tolerate the way you cruelly play with my heart. Speak the truth to me and speak it plain -- are you to abandon me for him?

PC:
a)I don't know...my heart and my mind are torn...
b)Jealousy is a real turn-off, Anomen. I think I'll go with (NPC).
c)No, I've decided to stay with you.

A (in response to answer a., a far more intriguing option...): You don't know?! After everything...N!! I cannot understand you!!

PC: I hardly understand myself, Anomen...

A: *sigh* I...I am sorry...forgive my wrath...only...I see the way you look at him, I see him touch your hand, and you don't object...and my blood begins to rage. It's all I can do to control my fury. I have tried to fight for you, N., and no battle I have ever fought was so hard or meant so much as this one...

PC: I need time, Anomen. Can you respect me enough to give that to me?

A: I suppose...I shall have to. But I am hurt beyond imagining. Your love for me was never as great as mine for you. If it were, you would never so much as consider looking at another man, just as I cannot look at any other woman. At the same time...your indecision gives me hope.
Very well...I shall leave you time to decide where your heart lies. I have but one request of you first...let me kiss you again, just once...and keep the memory of my embrace as you ponder your decision...
You carry my life in your hands, now. I will wait in agony for your answer.

------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
A suggestion for a Valygar/Kivan declaration of love (lust?).

V/K : <CHARNAME> , Are we resting? If you'll permit, I have a confession to make, would you walk with me a ways so that we may talk?

P.C :
a) (if still undecided about Anomen) Please don't think I read too much into your intentions, but ..... you know that our friendship has certain.....limits.
b) Yes, let us.....talk.
c) You insult me by your insinuations Valygar/Kivan, please do not bother me further.

Valygar/Kivan:
a)I understand, as we travel together, I increasingly find that I can scarcely control my passions while in your presence, but be assured I will always respect your wishes.
b)I feel uncertain how to express myself, but I can no longer ignore my desires. When I gaze upon your beauty I am reminded of the she-wolf, fierce, proud yet also ever gentle and protective. I long for you to share my bedroll, to watch the stars as your breath joins mine in their cold light. I am driven to distraction by the magic of your presence <CHARNAME>, and I can think only of feeling your body next to mine. Please, spend the night with me, I can contain my ardour no longer.
c) You wound me beyond belief. I am in love with you <CHARNAME>, I can no longer travel with you if those are your sentiments. (leaves party).

P.C: (to b option only)
a) Valygar/Kivan, I am flattered by your feelings for me, but I'm sorry, I'm unable to return them.
b) Valygar/Kivan, my pulse quickens to hear you speak so. Let us loose our bedrolls here in this quiet spot, we can join the others when the night gives way to dawn.
-------------------------------------------
Valygar: I have been thinking a great deal about magic, and know I know that I've been wrong.......It has many beneficial uses and it can also be a wonderful thing.
PC: What do you mean Valygar?

Valygar: Well.....I'm hesitant to say this but as we've travelled together I find myself increasingly under your spell. You possess a magic that I've never before encountered.

Anomen: Valygar, what are your intentions......?

--------------------------------------------
An early Valygar dialogue??? He seems to be a man of discretion, so I've kept this first one very low level.
Valygar: What a day for traveling! It is at times like this when I miss roaming the wilds (he is a ranger after all).

P.C : Would you prefer to return to that life Valygar?

Valygar: Occasionally my heart yearns to hear the singing of wolves as I prepare to sleep. But..... beauty has many forms and I believe that life offers many paths. Sometimes it is good to explore the different avenues that present themselves.

P.C : I’m not sure I would have elected to go my present path, had I been given a choice.

Valygar: Yes, your situation is not an easy one. But personal difficulties are always easier with the support of….friends. … Know that I am here, should you ever wish to talk.

-------------------------------------------
A possible follow up????????
Dialogue Two
Valygar: I don’t wish to intrude, but you seem pensive lately……Is there anything I can do?
PC: a) I’ve been thinking a lot about my past, and also about what lies ahead
b) I truly appreciate your concern Valygar, but I’m okay
c) Valygar, I don’t require a guardian, please stop concerning yourself with my well-being.

Valygar: in response to a) Even if one’s past is a dark one, the future can always hold hope... I discovered this when I finally confronted Lavok When I first met you my only goal was to compensate for my family’s past wrongs, but now I have reason to feel happier about what may come…… Did I ever properly thank you for helping me to finally see that magic is not always evil, and that wrong and right are not so clearly defined as I would have believed?

In response to b) I’m sorry, I did not intend to disturb you; perhaps we can talk another time.
In response to c) I apologize, I won’t bother you again.

P.C: a) Valygar, I‘m sure you expressed your appreciation, but I can’t take credit for something that I was not wholly responsible for. Others were also there, and coming to understand oneself is something that happens from within. But……even so, I’m glad that you feel more at peace.

Valygar: I’ve long appreciated the role you played in helping me to achieve that inner understanding....And if I can, I’d like to be able to ... to help you in dealing with the darkness of the past; it is the least I can do.

P.C: Thank you Valygar, I appreciate your support.

This might be the time to start introducing the tensions with Mazzy and/or Anomen.

Kivan :

When asked about his past KIVAN reveals that he hails from the forest of Shilmista, though he has not visited his homeland for quite some time. He has instead been traveling the world driven by the darkest of obsessions: revenge. Kivan and his mate Deheriana were apparently on a romantic sojourn years ago when they were waylaid by a group of Brigands. They were captured and tortured for the amusement of Tazok, the half-ogre that led the attack. Kivan eventually escaped, but Deheriana did not survive the encounter. Kivan is a man of few words, and obviously does not make friends easily. Likely he will not take much pleasure from life until he has revenged the death of his love.
----------------------------------------------------------

first dialogue between an LG Anomen and Kivan. I'm playing with the premise here of Anomen initially liking Kivan and being a little oblivious of his emerging feelings towards the pc.

Anomen: Kivan, I wanted to say how much I appreciate your companionship. It is not often that I meet one so honourable outside the Order.

Kivan:As I have spent much of my life roaming the wilds I know little of the Order. But....I thank you for your compliment nonetheless.

Anomen: Should we return to Athkatla I would be pleased to introduce you to the Radient Heart, they would find your vigilance against evil and corruption a most noble pursuit.

Kivan: Anomen.....I am not certain that I am worthy of such praise....I.....perhaps we should continue our journey. As you are no doubt aware "N" has much to attend to.

------------------------------------------------------------
An idea for an initial dialogue between Kivan and a CN Anomen.

Anomen: Kivan you must find much satisfaction in avenging xx's death. I too have experienced the sweet joy of bringing to justice one who caused me loss and pain. Alas, that my joy was to be transitory for I discovered that I murdered the wrong man. You are fortunate in that you have nothing to doubt in this regard.

Kivan: Yes, now, thanks to "N", I can finally begin to put the past aside. You must struggle daily knowing that you condemned an innocent to the dark thrust of your blade. I would not like to be in your situation.

Anomen: It is only my love for "N" that allows me to continue. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without her support and companionship. Surely I would go mad without her.

Kivan: Yes.....I can understand that. But... as you are no doubt aware, "N" has much to attend to. Perhaps we should continue our journey.

PC: a)I don't know...my heart and my mind are torn...
b)Jealousy is a real turn-off, Anomen. I think I'll go with (NPC).
c)No, I've decided to stay with you.

b) Valygar/Kivan, my pulse quickens to hear you speak so. Let us loose our bedrolls here in this quiet spot, we can join the others when the night gives way to dawn.
-------------------------------------------
So do we want to focus entirely on Kivan? I think that this has lots of potential. There's nothing like an old friend to stir up the jealousy of a new lover.......
Anomen: "I am sorry to hear of your tragic loss Kivan. You must still mourn xx a great deal. Were I to lose "PC" I would not rest until I had slain the one responsible.

-------------------------------------------
Oooooo-kaaay...I've tried my hand at an early Kivan/PC dialogue, post-Tazok. It's very preliminary. *deep breath* Here goes (I'm just using the letter <CHARNAME> to designate "PC Name"):

Kivan: It is good to travel with you once more, <CHARNAME>. I have missed you and the others...since we parted at Baldur's Gate I've often wondered what had become of you all.

PC: I am glad to adventure with you again as well, my old friend. Unfortunately, things have not gone well for us since then, to say the least...

Kivan: Yes, you have all suffered many losses...our valiant friends Khalid and Dynaheir (sigh)...and now Imoen has been taken from you, as well. But she, at least, shall be returned. We shall see to that...<CHARNAME>, I...am no stranger to grief, as you well know...your own may be eased by confiding in a friend.

PC: I am grateful for that offer...know that I will return the favor, should you ever wish to speak.

Kivan: Ah, yes...I have no right to ask anyone to open up to me when I have always been so silent...You know that I never speak at length about that, to anyone...but perhaps someday, I will be ready. Thank you.

-------------------------------------------
A: This Kivan, he is the one you spoke to me of, yes? One of those who fought with you in the city of Baldur's Gate?

PC: Yes, he is.

A: He must be a good person, to have shared your company and assisted you in your righteous endeavors.

PC: Indeed. Kivan was a devoted friend and an invaluable warrior. I was honored to have fought at his side and am happy to have found him again.

A: Such memories...must have created a strong bond between you...

PC: a) Not really. Our comradeship was a result of the necessity of battle, nothing more.
b) Yes, as with all my companions.
c) Yes, Kivan is very...dear to me.
d) Afraid you can't compete, eh?

A:
(a): I must admit that it pleases me to hear it... I would not wish to share your affections with another. My heart shall rest easy.
(b): I shall honor him then, as one whom you saw fit to accept into your company. Let us go on now. I hope that I too shall gain the friendship of this good man, for your sake.
(c): I see...Will you take my hand as we walk along?...we are nearing the end of the day, and I suddenly long to rest in your arms once again...
(d): You know me too well. Let us go on, I must think on this.

Edwin :

BG2 : When asked about how he came to be in the employ of the Shadow Thieves, EDWIN sneers that it is none of your business. In his opinion you are lucky enough to have encountered him at all, and further inquiries beyond this initial boon will only serve to tempt the fates. Despite his obstinate nature, there is a hint that his present circumstance is not all that favorable, and his willingness to join with you contradicts his supposed distaste for the company of others. Edwin ignores speculation about his recent past, but he does appear to have placed less emphasis on the Red Wizard colors he has so brazenly displayed in the past. It is an understandable act for a wizard traveler in mage-fearing Amn.
-------------------------

--------------------
Dialogue between edwin and PC.

Edwin: I notice you are fond of wielding a BROAD sword... (How appropriate!)

*********************
Edwin: I have never been fond of sleeping in the wilds... (so disgustingly primeval.)

PC: The woods can be quite peaceful and... private.

Edwin: Then perhaps this might be a good time for some private time. Perhaps you would like me to remove my robes, that you may gaze upon my mind, honed through years of difficult training.... (that oughta get her.)

PC: Edwin! Have you been listening in on my private discussions with Anomen? *slap*

Edwin: (Yes, she wants me.)

*************
PC: Edwin, is that a wand of Cloudkill in your robes, or are you just glad to see me?

*************

PC: Edwin, would you ever consider shaving?

Edwin: No blade will ever touch my face, woman.

PC: Not even my trusty Razor +5 Of Exotic Pleasures?

Edwin: I.... I.... (Damn, I hate to be speechless in front of this woman!)

PC: Eddie, you seem a bit flustered...

Edwin: No! I... I...

PC: Besides, I wasn't talking about shaving your face.

Edwin: Humnana, humnana.

PC: And I wouldn't be adverse to a little quid pro quo, tit for tat, as it were...

*Edwin explodes*

-----------------------------------------
By Vivien:
Edwin: I think, wench, that you should turn your eyes from that unworthy slob (Anomen) to a man more fitted for admiration. (yes, why does she look at the posturing of fools while, I, in my magnificence stand here?!?)

PC: Do you think we can't hear you talking to yourself oh 'magnificent one'?? Why should I pay any attention to a little man such as yourself?

Edwin: Well, as you know, luscious one, the men of Thay are renowned for our skill with magic...and other instruments most pleasing to a woman... just accompany me to my room for but a night and I can show you exactly what you would miss by consorting with this muscle bound goody looming over you. (gestures to Anomen)

--------------------

Okay, more Edwin dialogue possibilities (this would be a VERY early romance stage, perhaps one of the first)

Edwin: In this ill-conceived group you stand out as slightly different, and I find myeslf wanting to know more about you.

PC: What would you like to know, Edwin? (or alternately: “I would think you talk to yourself enough that you wouldn’t need to actually converse with another human.”

Edwin: What is your opinion of me? I know it can only be favorable. Well, close to worship probably, but sometimes your eyes fall on me and I demand to know why.

PC: Actually, I’ve mainly been interested in your necklace, it’s quite unusual.

Edwin: My amulate?? You are looking at me for this bauble around my neck, not my person?! (Bother, why do I spend any time talking to these people, especially this …female…
--------------------------------
(Second dialogue)

Edwin: I hope in drawing you aside this time, that there will be no more misunderstandings between us. In that vein, I intend to share what I think of you.

PC: Yes, what could you possibly have to say to me? (Or alternately: “Edwin, you mutter day and night about the incompetents you travel with, I know very well what you think.”

Edwin: My dear, by your light in your eyes that I find most appealing. That, along with the roll of you hips, speak to me of your thoughts towards me.

PC: I think that the reputation of the Thayvians, if true, leads me to believe a safe distance is in my best interest. (Or alternately: “Hips don’t speak, you sod. Get your lechorous eyes off of my body, or I’ll be placing this dagger here in your high and mighty forehead!”

Edwin: Hush! Not all are self-obsessed fools! (Almost all though… I am one you can trust with your more…tender moments. (She cannot resist my charms for long, soon…soon…
------------------------------------
One more, Anomen and Edwin: (Third discussion if Anomen is in party, otherwise skipped)
Anomen: My lady, I see that you have stumbled, allow my arm to guide you in this darkened street. Mayhap now would be a good time to continue our talks.

Edwin: Oh ho! I say, this proves my opinion of you, you pink pansy! All noble intentions pretended while you try to lead a young wench into a darkened corner. (You members of the ‘Radiant Arse’ are all alike.) (OOC – not sure if Edwin would say this, but it’s funny)

Anomen: Do I understand that you besmirch my most noble order? Sir, your words and bearing are beneath me to answer, as I merely was helping the lady as I would any damsel in distress. Speak carefully lest my sword defend mine honor!

Edwin: And your words show so much about you. <PC>, hear what he says? What type of man would you like to lead you into darkened corners? One who will likely drop you for the next ‘damsel in distress’ he comes across after you? (If he can keep a thought in his head long enough for even that!) Or one such as myself, who’s very profession enables him to focus all attentions on a single object. If I were to take you into a darkened alley, there would be no playing around and disguising of true intentions.

PC: Yes, the blade in may back would come soon enough. (Or, alternately: “I have no desire to be lead into darkened alleys by either of you! What type of woman do you think I am?!)

Anomen: My lady, I would ne-

Edwin: Shove off, can’t you see three is a crowd? Sweetling, you misunderstand, I have no desire to besmirch my robe in such a dirty alley. I leave the rolling in dirt helping orphans for choir boy here. Instead, might I suggest we adjourn to a nearby inn, perhaps one with honeyed wine to help you relax after such a day?

---------------------------------------
I’ve some more Edwin dialogue if this amuses anyone
This is the one prior to his discussion with Anomen and his invitation of the pc into the tavern…(I hate being all out of order, but oh well! It’s more serious, but the next thread will be much funnier, I guarantee it)

Edwin: My Dear, as we walk along the rocks in my shoes are distracting me beyond patience, and I try to think on more pleasant topics. Thus, I’ve been mulling over you…

PC: Yes?

Edwin: What type of women are you I try to discover, you have so many surprises…. I originally thought you uninteresting, simian…but now I find myself trying to categorize why you do what you do…
Sometimes you seem weak by helping such pathetic fools, other times I am almost in awe of your…power…

PC: I am tired of being thought of as just the child of Bhaal! I am a flesh and blood woman, with emotions, pain and… laughter on those rare occasions…

{Or alternatively: Afraid I might be too much to handle as a traveling companion, ‘Eddie’?}

Edwin: Your power is not from your heritage I think, it is something that I am deciding. It’s not where you are from, but YOU. (Bah! I consider those around myself too much and should be spending more time increasing my knowledge of the arcane arts, not spending time with this morsel!)

{Answer to alternative: Eddie? Who have you been talking to?!? EDWIN is my name! And, no..as a traveling companion you are quite fine…(if I were to move forward with other designs though…that is something I must think on…}

Any remarks , advises, complete dialogues are really appreciated - I'm able to write even complicated scripts, quests , dialogues, however I have to know all needed things like story, events, dialogues options - I'm not the best writerand the another thing is that I have many projects running in the same time : "Pantheon of Chaos" add-on and add-on on basis of "Fallout" are the most significant ones.

These dialogues are great!! I like how you created the rivalry between Anomen and Edwin/Kivan/Valgyr. It's about time someone livened things up with the female pc romance. Nice job ;)

Hmm, I have to clarify one thing - these dialogues were created by some other people like Dragon Wench, George some time ago. They were known as "Harem Tent" (here on Gamebanshee) and now as "The Order of the Dark flame" . I have just gathered their dialogues and make some order in it - but there are still not enough to make romances from it - there are not enough PC - romanced NPC conversations and that is the thing that should be improved - maybe I should ask also people from SYM for corporation because as I suppose they are all there............

ROFLMAO - The Edwin dialogues are hysterical! Nice change of pace from the more *serious* romance dialogues.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Ooops...sorry. Got to give credit where credit is due.
Well anyway, I'm no writer, but it seems that if you generate some NPC side quests, the rest of the dialogue would sort of fall into place. I mean, most of the dialogue that occured between the female PC character and Anomen involved:
1. his quest to get into the Radiant Heart,
or
2. his quest involving the death of his
sister.
For example, maybe you could develop a side quest for Edwin relating to his past history with the Wizards of Thay (ex. "...various appearances/attacks by mysterious Wizards clothed in red garb makes you realize that Edwin is being hunted by those who he once called comrades. You slowly come to the realization that the coward is hiding within the ranks of your group, not for wealth or power, but for protection." Slowly, Edwin would be forced to reveal his past, particularly involving the conflict that he is currently tangled up in. I think it might be funny watching Edwin try to reassert his 'manlihood' while being called a pansy by the rest of the group.
Well, like I said, I'm no writer, and I don't have a very good flair for the dramatic. Others would be better suited to coming up with a good NPC storylines. But it's just an idea - hope it helps!! :D

Wow, those dialogs are really good. It would be great if Edwin started speaking more :D

But on a side note, I would like to see some new NPC in the game, if that is possible... Safana (And you would get that long lost true theif that the game is missing)could make a very cool NPC/Romance. But I think that a new Female romance should come first, Edwin gets my vote.

Nice to see our dialogue up once more :)

If you need help with the Edwin dialogue (writing more, putting it together), I'm willing to give it a try again. Though, I worry that I'm the only one who thinks it's a good option. The other members of the Dark Flames *might* like whole 'noble' thing more ;)

Oh, and as to Nippy's comment, is that possible? I've always thought the time when Edwin turns into a women would be awfully fun for the PC romance to get a little 'twist' ;)

Hmm, maybe other members of The Order of Dark Flame have their own ideas for really custom romance /NPCs/Quests that would be used and translated to game "language", therefore useable by more players - to be honest I wasn't here for some time focused mainly on BG1 forum (I was going through this game once again) and generally on the Infinity Engine wizards place known as TeamBG forums improving my skills in editing/ developing new unknown features of IE games.

Now I'm going to use these skills in further development of my add-on to ToB. I have a lot of areas, I have also areas from the other realm - "Fallout" will be back with its "postnuclear" atmosphere - but I have also not enough side quests.

I have read "Order's ..." stories partially and I think that they are very interesting - if you would write complete dialogue sequences/scenario for that then I would be able to write with Kensai Ryu scripts that would maintain it in game - This could be "noble" version of past concept of "Pantheon" of Gamebanshee people - done work could be always used in the future in the development of NWN campaigns...........

let me know what do you think about this.

As for Edwin's romance I really would like to finish it with success - at least there would be the first really custom romance, so I would be grateful for any help in this.
:)

As for other NPCs if the people like then they could add their dialogue possibilities - the best could be if they make some integral part with other dialogues. Or maybe you have an idea for complete story ?

Manveru, as you know I would like to have Solaufein, the dark elf, as a romance option. Imagine all the interesting intrigues between him and Anomen - that would make a nice contrast!

I would love to help out with suggestions of story and dialogue, I know virtually nothing about programming and scripting, but since I am a psychologist I might be able to add to the humanistic side :D :)

The problem is that English is only my second language, and whereas I can write perfect scientific reports, I'm not very good at natural dialoges, so I would need help from native English speakers.
