Undead Targos mod tactics (spoiler)

Post by Dedigan »

Quick question. Does anyone have any tactics against the double trouble necromancers (Callabus and Suballac) in the Targos final battle that doesn't involve repeated reloading?

1. after each battle you have a few seconds time to save - do this!

2. you can always let you heal by the priest (even in battle)!

3. best for this battle is a drow with at least one rogue level (evasion), good reflex saves and stealth skills:

a) let him hide and put him in the path of the the enemy team that charges to you - keep the rest of the team near the house with the priest.

b) sneak to Callabus / Suballac and attack him or just step out of the shadow (what worked even better for me)

c) if you are lucky he will throw a fireball at you (~50% chance fireball or boiling blood on his first spell) and kills himself and most of his monsters this way - as you are drow and have evasion you have a fairly good chance to survive this!

4. use the 4 arrows only on the 4 zombie lords(?) as you have no other chance to harm them at this point of the game

5. the other undead (bone-guards?) are hard to kill but at least this is possible! Try to keep them seperated and run for the priest if you need a heal all spell! The "running in cicles and bring them down with ranged weapons"-atctics is not such a bad tactic a few fireballs and the wall of moonlight(?) could also be helpfull but I would spare them for the 2nd team at the gate!

6. if you have killed the first team let your party heal and try to save (should be possible if you are far enough away from the gate!)

7. the team at the gate could be handled the same way - let your drow rogue sneak close to Callabus / Suballac then let him step out of the shadows and from the moment Callabus / Suballac starts to cast - run!

He throws the fireball at the point you step out of the shadow and kills himself and most minor enemies this way! Keep a wiz or a sorc on a distance so that they can throw in a few more area effect spells (then they should better run!) use the wall of moonlight and try to run in such a way that the charging undead run through this wall - use the arrows only for the zombie lords!

This way it works at least for me with my party!

Thanks. I didn't think about using a drow rogue. My rogue at that point was a human Rogue(1)/Evoker(2).

My strategy was different. I managed to get the Callabus-undead to attack me first. I led them off, killed the zombie lords instantly, then took longer on the bone guard. I returned to Callabus with only my deep gnome with his mirror image on. Callabus fireballs and skull traps his own people to death, then after the MI is gone, I rush in with everyone and beat him down.

After a quick heal, I attempt to repeat the routine with Suballac. I have no mirror images left, so I sacrificed my person with the best reflex saves before rushing in and killing the necro-twin.

The problem with that is that the sacrificed character gets no experience for all that effort, and 5 times out of 6 I lost more than the one intended sacrifice. The 6th time I was satisfied enough to continue to orc-country.

with a drow rogue just have an additional chance to survive:

a) via evasion with a good reflex save

b) or via the drow spell resistance

but it's the best (only) chance to let caballus do the job for you, and kill / damage all with his fireball...

...if he hits any other PC from your party (without evasion and/or SR) with his fireball, there is a very high chance that he kills him at once!

If you are lucky he also kills himself this way! :D
