Shadow ruins lost item

I made it to the chess room, activated the chess game but messed up on the numbers. I killed the chess piece (not sure if that was good or bad) and then left the room. When I came back in, the artirfact wasn't on the pedistal and not in my inventory. I retraced all of my steps to get to this room...and through all of the islands but haven't found it. I even went back to the room where it initially was and it's not there. Anybody have this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, I think that each time you mess up with the sequence, the puzzle shuts down, and the stone guardian attacks you. Then when you kill the guardian you get another stone to try again with.

So far, in my case, I have no stone anymore. It's not in my inventory and it's not in the statue's hand, where it was before. I'm at a loss....

I just applied the 1.1 patch, which is supposed to fix that problem...but it doesn't. I'm assuming that the patch should have been applied before defeating the athena chess player? Any ideas from the actual game makers?

When you enter the rom activate the piedestal with a stone.After that go like that :
A 1 2 3 4
B 1 2 3 4
C 1 2 3 4
D 1 2 3 4

D1,C1,C2,C3,D3,D2,D1,C1,C2,B2,A2 and you will have the open gates and the chess figures won't atack you, so you'll be able to take the sword, after that, equip the sword, pass the portal and kill the guys tha are thraetening th lord...

Yes, I have all of the numbers...thank you tho. My problem is, I am missing the stone that activates the game. I had it at one time and when I messed up the numbers, it vanished. It's nowhere to be found, and yes I have looked...islands and all. The 1.1 patch states that it fixes this problem, but it doesn't.
