Yes, they do, so long as you don't join an online server that prevents cheats.

I thought things such as unexplained experience gain are allowed online? (personally I don't like to cheat so I wouldn't know, but I assumed what was identified as illegal characters are ones with impossible mods such as 40 in all stats and a strange character skin?)
yolandawillow: in NWN, level does matter as much as in many other games. A fighter character, especially, can probably go trough the game with a bit of tactics and items at level 15. Just a suggestion.

edit: So much as method is concerned,search it, and it is also on the game manual.

Most server's make you create a character specifically for that server and disallow cheats and such. If you find one that allows you to bring your own character in, and has the option of "enforce legal character's" off, you can bump your stats to obscene levels before entering. They won't let you in if that option is there though. It rejects you.
