Malak (SPOILERS)
Well, I stayed up all night playing KoTR and now have Malak cornered. This ***** is hard. I rushed through all the Star Maps and missions, which means less fighting, which means less leveling up, which means limited force powers.
All the strategy guides on this site aren't of much help. Anyone have any suggestions?

I disagree with him being screwed. I had a difficult time with Malak my first time, although I'm a *very* thorough person (I probably missed a few side quests I didn't know about, but I cleared out just about everything I could). I wound up having to run around for a long time, occasionally turning back to engage him. It took a while, and a few loads, but I managed to get him eventually.

MirroringGemini, please put SPOILER at the top of a thread like this--which you'll see the site owner requested in his sticky thread entitled PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING (duh). If I sound a bit grumpy, it's because I've already received two complaints about this thread this morning, and I really don't like taking out time from work to fix these things.

That's probably reasonable advice. MirroringGemini, can the attitude, read the forum rules by the site owner, and follow 'em along with the spoiler rule that you ignored. If you can't, your posting privileges could end up withdrawn. Consider yourself warned.

I'm still lost as to how this was a spoiler. If you read the little info thing that comes with the game it says something to the effect of "Meet with the Sith lord and determine the fate of the galaxy."
And, alright, I'll respect your post count if you want. Just because I'm new to THIS forum doesn't mean I'm a newb to the entire messageboard world, and I've come to know that mods boast their post count like it's oh so important and makes them oh so powerful.
Time doesn't equate any type of supreme knowledge and it sure doesn't always merit respect. Dubya's been in office five years now and he doesn't deserve respect.
Point taken? I sure hope so.

LOL! We both know this isn't about "respecting" post counts. This is about two things, respecting folks who don't want giveaway information in threads without some warning, and respecting the rules of the site owner. And you're obviously smart enough to follow that much.
Your question had to do with the final battle. The complaints I received about your post were from people who said they didn't want to know in advance whom they were going to fight ahead of time. And, surprise, surprise, that counts as a spoiler. Whether that identity seems obvious or not to you or me, isn't the point.
But if you wanted to question this, I can think of five ways that were less confrontational, more--dare I use the word? respectful--and more likely to solicit a positive response than your "Ooh, big spoiler. No one would have ever guessed you would fight the reigning Sith Lord at the end of the game. Get over it. And I did read that thread, so don't "duh" me." Seeing as how I received two complaints already in a short space of time since your thread was begun, your response was not only sarcastic, but woefully inaccurate. New players did consider it a spoiler, and complained to me about it. That was sufficient.
If you or anybody else wishes to continue this enlightening discussion further, by all means click on my name and choose to send me a personal message about it. Any other comments in this thread should be about the question you posed. And if this seems dictatorial to you, consider that you were politely asked first to abide by the rules of the board, and responded as rudely as possible. You may get in the first shot, but we reserve the right to the last blast.
EDIT: For all discussion of politics, feel free to check out SYM (Speak Your Mind), our forum for non-game-related issues. I've been attacking Shrub there since before he was elected the first time.
Yeh I remember my first time fighting Malak was pretty hard too, tho I also did as many sidequests as I could.
I used a crapload of medpacs, and ran a lot, throwing my lightsaber once in a while. That's how I got him the first time...
Second time I played him he was easy tho
Force drain and medpacs. Throwing a lightsaber doesn't yield much damage, but by force draining the occupants of the pods when Malak is doing so, you're denying Malak the subsequent means to rebuild his own health. I just let Malak go off and drain one, while at the same time I drained as many as could in the same period, whether I needed the health, or not.
Without force drain, Malak essentially can make the same combat last as much as six times longer. I've never tried this, but you could attempt to remove his jedi defenses, and whirlwind him down. Possibly leech him for more force, too. A little luck might keep him from hitting a pod reservoir for health when he needs it badly, and allow you to finish him off.

Spoilerish
BTW, which class are you, I didn't really like playing as a sentinel or a consular, both are weak imho, Gaurdians are whatmade the game a bit easier for me, what you should do is put on a verpine prototype shield and get good armour on, run around throw your lightsaber, set mines, throw thermal detonatores and destroy the jedi in the tank things.

i was level 20 when i beated him difficulty normal, and it was so easy lol ( i just use about 10-15 advanced medpacks ). Fight a little at the beginning until he heals for the first time, then destroy all the kind of "prisons" where the jedis are with saberthrowing/disabledroid/..../lightning..... ( only one strike is necessary ). Then fight, when your life is low run with speedpower while healing with medpacks ( when you are far enough from him he even stops following you )).
bye
bye
english isn't my native language, sorry if any there are any mistakes
The first time I played I messed up big with my character building.Force drain and medpacs.
I was a Consular who had too little Wisdom to be any good, and way too little Str and Dex to fight close with lightsaber.
I couldn't use force powers on him, and I couldnt fight close.
I got dmg really fast, so all those jedi's were drained pretty fast by me
The only choice I had was to run, throw lightsaber, get hit, run, use medpac, run, throw lightsaber, get hit, etc...
The only time I experienced Malak as inferior to me when I was a Guardian...
Sentinal/Counsular are very hard to defeat Malak, even if you did a decent character build.
Guardian is too easy tho...

ok. the first time against malak was kinduve hard. Just read through all of the guides and what not, and it shouldnt be too difficult. But ill give you my strategy also.
Ok, first i just loaded up on all of the stims i had outside of Malaks room. Verpine prototype sheild or an echani dueling sheild work best. Then i used burst of speed (whatever upgrade you have of that) and force immunity. After hes done talking, you want to add some space between him and you. I suggest force wave twice or so. Then force breech to cancel out whatever he may be doing, b/c remember, just b/c you have immunity, he can still get you. The first round w/ malak you just have to tough it out. Use force wave then throw lightsaber to get some quick hits to him and just use some quick attacks when he comes back. Hell get down to half heath sooner or later then go into the cut scene. After the cut scene use burst of speed and run far to the other side of the room. Destroy all of the jedi in the statis tubes as quick as you can. Dont try to run and attack him yet. Just run around the room and kill the stasified jedi. As you run down the ramps, place some mines at the top and bottom of the ramps. Perferebly deadly ones. Use the demolitions headband if you dont have a high enough demolitions points. Always keep burst of speed on. The mines shoud take him roughly 1/4 to half down on health and with nothing to heal off of, your in the home stretch. If your playing the ds path, (i did the light both times so im just guessing on this) but use deadly force powers ie choke wound etc. If your playing the light, use force breach, force wave and throw lightsaber a lot. If malak stops, grenade him. Now for the things i found extremely useful;
Did you start out as a soldier?
after a while of running around, malak should be half way down. If your a soldier equip a verpine prototype sheld and hyper adrenal strength and just battle him in hand to hand combat. Its not hard at all. Flurry is great to use then.
Scoundrel?
Your demolitions skill is high, so use mines. a lot of them.
Counsular?
Use that goofy lookin gold headband that gives you plus 5 wisdom. All the time (even not at malak) and just about nobody can resist yoru force powers. Against malak, use force wave and throw lightsaber. You will still have to fight a little bit of hand to hand at the end but just be loaded up on stims.
Good Luck!

My Malak Secrets (spoiler Or No!)
I personally enjoy setting some mines on the path into fighting Malak then running away when he draws his lightsaber. I agree that Guardians are the way to go (epecially LS) but I did enjoy being DS and getting all the powers I liked as a consilour(SP?). I never understood Sentinal(SP?). OK as far as Malak again. I like to not fight him and just run around freeing (LS) or killing (DS) the Jedi in the tanks. When all them are depleted I set a bunch of mines and run around in circles. Slow(etc.) works well as DS to keep Malak off your tail while setting mines. Jedi Speed works as LS. Usually 2-3 mines work best less and you get no real damage and more it starts to be less effective somehow. Do not be afraid to use your minor frag granades, eventually they will all add up. Then by the time you run out of mines he is usually down to like 10 HP. Enjoy.

Bao-Dur: I think he wanted us to give up the Genreal to his poorly trained collection of bounty hunters.
Atton: Ah. well that would explain it. Which one do you want?
Bao-Dur: I'll take the stupid one who decided to threaten us rather than shoot us when he had the chance.

Yeah, I was thinking at first that mines are rather cheesy (since yours don't go off for you, even if you walk right into them, whille they go off for everybody else), but then, what isn't? It's the height of cheesiness to carry around 50 medpaks of varying strength on your person, and fight without encumbrance. "Oh, you see, I learned a secret technique to hide them in subspace from the Jedi Mousse!" Riiiight. If that's the case, Malak should have plenty of medpaks, too. It's all just cheese, whatever way you beat him.

Well, fable, you could just start throwing all the 50 or so lightsabers you've accumulated throughout the game at him, if you still have them all on your person. Just throw saber after saber at him then, when that doesn't finish him, throw all the guns at him, too; maybe you'll hit him in the head and stun him. It's all cheesy.
