No complain from me Buck, I'm kind of used to pop-ups from other sites, and anything to help the site is fine with me.

Just as long as they don't popup as often as some of the sites which destribute illegal stuff (like Roms and Mp3s) then its cool. ^ ^

It's not annoying at all, Buck. :)

If the site stays up because of it, I'm all for it!

Keep it if you need the revenue. That's my vote, yes they are slightly anoying but everyone else uses 'em, so I'm used to just shutting 'em.

No problem, I have a program that closes pop-ups as they appear...

Since I'm on both ends of the spectrum - a web surfer and webmaster, I can understand why someone would use software to kill "annoying" ads, yet I also see their severe detriment to the web.

In a world of rapidly declining internet revenue, people who use ad killers are only shooting themselves in the foot, in my opinion. As more people use them, sites like GameBanshee will be unable to pay their bills. Therefore, the only alternative will be charging money for the site or closing down. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather surf a site and get free content with a few ads then pay a monthly charge for every site I want to visit. And who wants a good site to shut down? That doesn't help anyone.

It's really a shame that the internet is in the predicament that it is. And it's an even bigger shame that companies are making money selling software that kills ads and basically steals money from hardworking webmasters.[/QB]
I would never use a product like that.
How bad can pop ups be?
You just lick the "x" and thats it or you check out the link.

So how does all this Internet advertising work? I have no practical experience in dealing with ads, and if I started doing so, I'd rather do it in a way that doesn't hurt the sites I like...

Do you get money for simply displaying an ad? For showing a pop-up? Or does someone have to click it before it generates any revenue whatsoever?

What happens should I use a firewall to keep images from certain well-known ad URLs out of my computer? Would that bite GameBanshee's revenue?

Furthermore, did I understand correctly that me clicking 1000 ads nets GameBanshee $1.00 or something? I'd much rather donate that amount than spend my time clicking 1000 ads, personally. ;)

Just trying to think along...

Man, why do people have to be so difficult. If they want the site to stay than go with the pop ups.

Yes they do. And I will use a pop-up killer on any site that tries this with me. One I can handle, but when I close it out, I don't 5 or more opening.

There are other ways to keep the site up besides pop-up's....This is why I'm being so difficult.

I find it a sad fact that out of 3000 members, Buck doesn't get more donations.

@Weasel: I'm with you, but sadly, I can't do all that much :( as I'm not of age to donate via credit cards and such.
