Trouble with lock-picking

Post by Griffino »

Simply; I cannot pick locks. I have the skill (lvl 4)and I have lockpicks (lvl 1 standard and lvl 3 magic if that means anything to you). I just walk up to a door until the bottom of the screen says "lock" and press the same button I use to open trapped chests and nothing happens accept for the message "item required" pops up. I can undo trapped chests but I cannot unlock doors, the manual seems clear that it is the same sequence.

If the game says "item required" then you can only open the door with a key.

I've also found that having level 9 in inspect and disarm traps gives 65% chance to open level 8 treasure chests, while bashing the same level 8 treasure chest with I think it was 65 strength gives a 64% chance to open it. Lesson learned, don't waste points on disarm traps/inspect past level 3 or 4, whatever you need to survive until you can pump up yer strength a bit.

Lock picking is a useless skill. At least for none Rogue classes. There are only few locks that you can pick in the whole game, and the only critical lock is the one on the cell block in Ulm, if you are trying to free Laviathra's son, but that also have a key to open it. So, don't waste you points in Lock Picking.

Thank you blueray, so I'm assuming I can't pick locks without being a rogue class. Why can I put points into something completely useless to me. I quess the points need to go to the developers of Dungeon Lords. NICE.............

you still can learn lock picking and use it even if you are not a Rogue. What I means is I'm not sure if Lock Picking is any useful for any of the Rogue related quest, since I've not played that class path. However I can be sure for other class, none of the quest required any lock picking. There are, however, many chest with traps around the game, so spend your points in Examine Traps and Disarm Traps is more useful than Lock Picking

I've run into a few locked doors that were level 5 or 6 where having a lock picking skill of 9 came in handy. I also like being able to open all the chests without getting interrupted by traps going off. ;)

BTW, I'm playing an Urgoth Fighter/Adept/Paladin/Samurai, not a Rogue.

It a handy skill if u are lasy to search for keys... But almost every lock has a key somewhere, just have to find it.
