Alignment
Alignment
As you may all know, the most wondrous thing in PS:T is its great alignment system. Just for the sake of simply discussion on our favourite game, i want to ask: What alignment fits you best?
Basically when i dont want to roleplay and make choises on my own judging, i come up as Chaotic Neutral(evil in some cases). Mind you, i dont go about mindless killing and pointless lying. I simply do anything which would benefit me in any way. I ivolve myself(in PS:T) with somebody *only* if they are of use to me.
Next time id go for Lawful Evil or Lawful Good.

Not really. While PS:T is the best CRPG I know in so far as personal alignment genuinely reflecting choices made in the environment, those choices still only have (for the most part) minor consequences.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
The first time through any Bioware-Infinity-Engine game, I always play as the good guy: heroic, generous, compassionate, etc, etc.
While these games are designed for both good & evil gameplay, I always figure you'll experience the most of what these games have to offer via the 'good' route.
And I figure that if I were to ever get around to playing a second time, I'd play the opposite (evil), just to experience as much of the different elements of the game as possible.
Anyways, for Torment, I play as a mature, heroic, generous, compassionate dude, with no sense of humor (Charisma=9, my name's not Adhan!), big muscles, and lots of Intelligence and Wisdom.
And I don't call this roleplaying. I'm exactly like this I real life. Of course I am.
Playing this way, my Nameless One became first Good, then lawful, very early in the game.
(...at least, I don't *think* my name's Adhan...)

Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

That's exactly about me as well! I AM Good Neutral in real life.
1) I cannot be cruel to people even in a game, especially to my friends from PST!
2) You really get more profit from being Good (more exp. for helping people, etc.)
3) I'm Neutral because I don't wanna lie but I'd like to meet Adhan!!!

Nor I. Except the ones I bash for experience points.
And if I find out Adhan stole my name, I'll bash him, too.

I´d really love to be lawful good but...
... now matter how I try, I stay neutral good.
I hope, there is no other Thread which already replys to my very question:
How do I become lawful good?
I apologize for my poor english and mistakes I perhaps made. I am from Germany and my school-english lies some years in the past.
The only practice I get is in reading Books in English and -of course- playing Computer-Games in English, because I seldom like the german translations.
I am looking forward to your replys
Best regards
Keltoi
PS: I fought the Deva and came back to Sigil. Now I am heading off to the Mortuary. Is there still any chance in the further game to become lawful?

@Keltoi
I am using Dan Simpson's excellent PS:T walkthrough. It has very detailed information on events that can change alignment.
http://www.gamefaqs.com (and that Sorceror's Palace website)
I like to go thru an area, then check it out in the walkthrough to see what I missed (I'll likely never have time to play this again).
Overall, I'd say don't use obnoxious dialogue options (making fun Morte or others, saying you are 'Adahn', etc). The rest takes care of itself: many 'good' actions will raise 'lawful' too. Being good, but obnoxious, lowers the lawful.
"That is what is *known* to me."

Thx but...
... I can't remember ever having said that I was Adahn, nor did I fool others (at least not knowingly)
I tried to be as kind as possible but nothing I could do was lawful enough, it seems.
I fear that I did not understand some shades of my talking options so that I said things I did not mean to. As I said, my English is miles away from being perfekt
Do you think there is, at this state of gameplay, still a chance to become lawful? -If not, I will sell my Tears of Saliur Dei (Or what it's called)
Thanks again
Best wishes

Not sure, I'm not that far along, I'm still in the Clerk's Ward. I had to put the game down for a couple of months, and it will be a couple more weeks before I can pick it back up.
Plus I became Good, then Lawful, very early in the game, and my alignment hasn't changed since.
Check out Dan Simpson's walkthrough. Thy answers lie therein, dude!

Correct: I've never heard females referred to as dudes. My apologies.
Good luck with the download (it is small is size, just a .txt file, probably zipped, readable with Notepad when unzipped). Tread lightly when you read it... spoilers abound. It's almost too good.

Hey, no prob, even some of the folks I often chat with, think I was male
And I am no typical female. Most of my interests I share with my male friends so don't worry!

Didn't have to download it at all. It was readable yet.
Now I wish I'd never red it... Not only that I missed many quests... I have no chance to become Lawful, because the game soon will be over
As I remember most of my answers were the lawful way, so I ask myself how did it come, that I am still neutral? Could it be a bug? I also was not able to invoke any of the tatoos (except the Tatoo of the source after I patched the game). Perhaps I played the 1.0 version too long (Somehow I forgot to download the usual patches)
OK before this posting becomes too much off topic I'll end it up wishing you a nice Day (or whatever time it is now at your place )
Best regards

Maybe this'll make it worthwhile to go thru PST again... fully patched, using another class, more quests, NPC's, etc? Maybe replay it as an evil alignment?
BTW-very nice avatar. You'll definitely avoid being mistaken for a dude, to be sure.

Oh thanks! That´s the reason why I put my picture up here. No further misunderstandings I hope I look female enough on this low-size-picture. Most Forums in Germany usually allow 140x140 or at least 100x100 pixels. But there is one BIG advantage in these mini-pictures: One can't see nasty details

Maybe... But it always takes a long time to become strong enough for having some fun *g* - NO I´m not a hack and slay freak... but almost
Evil alignment? No way! I am not able to be mean to others - not even in a game. Once I played a Cyberpunk-Char (I don't know, if you know this Pen&Paper system) with VERY low emphaty (nerly a Cyber-Psycho) running around and killing people just for fun or because they said things they shouldn't... never again!
Maybe I could play a chaotic good next time, because that's the way Morte is and I like him a lot.
Best wishes

I really think my chaos-counter was buggy. After saving I tried what happens, when I play with the Modron-Cube. I tried everything one could do with it, but even then nothing happened. If my counter was working right, I had to be chaotic afterwards.
After having played with the cube I loaded the game again, because my NO is not half as childish as I am sometimes *g*

Meh...
What I love is how you can loot people's homes and not only do they not care, but it doesn't make you the slightest bit more chaotic, or evil, or whatever. In the words of Fallout 2's Chosen One, ""What do I WANT? I don't really know. Most of the time I ignore my quest and walk into the homes of others, riffling through people's shelves..."
The most natural alignment for my characters to fall into is neutral good. I'm trying a Chaotic Good path now, and I'll see how being some sort of evil works out later. I had hoped that being a Xaositect would give me some sorta neat thingy where I would received hints from the chaos of the universe itself, like Barking-Wilder when he knows where your journals are, but nothing so far. Being a Xaositect doesn't even give me any cred with Jumble Murdersense! I suppose it's as Barking-Wilder says about not seeking advantages. Though I did get to say the line "Well I, for one, plan on discovering the secrets of the multiverse by rubbing cottage cheese on my belly and eating vast quantities of fresh-water fish. Mmm... cheese," which is a pretty good benefit.
Overall, I think the D&D law/chaos good/evil system is better than many believe it to be, but at the same time, it's a bit vague. I think the factions should provide more specific moral demands on their members (much like the "humanity/path" system in Vampire: the Masquerade or the various hodge-podge of vows and committments that can be taken as disadvantages in GURPS). Unfortunately, many of the factions don't seem to have a very unique or distinct moral outlook. The Athar for instance: so the Gods are frauds: great, so does that mean I'm never allowed to lie? If I'm a female Athar, is it morally acceptable for me to abort pregnancies? Is eating meat morally acceptable? Can I fight people for reasons other than self-defense, if they are evil? (can I kill a lord, rightful heir to his position, who taxes his peasants to the point of starvation while building fantastic palaces for himself, even if he's done me no harm and isn't particularly violent or aggressive in his rule?) How much of an effort do I have to make to help others? Is promiscuous consensual sex morally acceptable so long as I am cautious (what do people in Planescape use as pregnancy and STD protection anyway?), or should I abstain until I get into a monogamous relationship? The Athar have a particularly one-dimensional philosophy that can be summed up in "Gods are frauds" (and I say this as an atheist myself), but if you look at most of the factions, few of them DO answer these questions. Maybe that's because TSR wanted to avoid wading into contreversies ("generally, members of the Dustmen are pro-choice, and support women's right to get abortions" "The Harmonium advocates strict abstinence until marriage.").
Note: I edited this post because I got confused, and thought the thread was about which alignment most fits us as people, rather than which fits our characters when we roleplay.
