Extreme Slowdown when casting Area Spells??

Post by Vulne »

I have everything set on IWD II to maximum and 1024x768 Resolution. The game runs fast and fine with regards to most everything until there is a large amount of Area Affect spells on screen.

An example is trying to use Entangle and Rain Damage at the same time...makes the computer extremely sluggish. I am wondering what the deal is here if anyone knows?

I had the same problem with IWD (Just finished it and all expansions) and I don't remember how I fixed it.

Computer specs are...

3500+
1 Gig Ram
6800GT
Raptor II 74g HDD

I would think my system would be able to run this game 3 times over...any idea what the problem is??

Yeah, that system should run circles around mine and I never had a slowdown problem. You could try the "slowdown fix" here, it's the 3rd link down on this page:

I never needed it though so I can't vouch for it.

I've always noticed that level 5 of the Dragons Eye ALWAYS runs slow.

Just this map though, everywhere else seems to work ok, anyone else get this?

Hmm. No that fix isn't it. Thank you for the suggestion though. The problem is with lots of stuff on screen or lots of spells. :(

huh

I dunno which of those big numbers is your video card, but try this.
Open up the options for directdraw/directglide, and set them more toward performance. If that doesn't work, try changing the OpenGL settings toward performance. If those don't work, try just lowering the graphics settings on the game. Aside from that, good luck.
