Hall of Long Death battle (Spoiler?)

Post by Jinjer »

Could someone help me?

There's that tough battle in hell in HotU, when Balpheron, Maugrim, Grimgnaw, that elven rogue and the minotaur attack me all at once.

I'm a level 24 pure wizard but I've still got problems. That stupid dwarf Grimgnaw clings to my heels and I can't shake him off. It's totally anoying that he always disrupts my spells. Is he meant to attack me, or is it simply a bug? Do I have to get a patch for this? Could someone offer me a good strategy?

Please, I'm getting bored by getting killed ten times in a row.

The worst enemy by far is Balpheron, since he is an arcane spellcaster with powerful spells. He will allways cast timestop in that room. So if you got the Undeath to Death spell and greater necromancy spell focus (prefered if you got the epic) he should fall from that spell. You can take Grimgnaw and that Minotaur down if you got any spell shields (elemental shield and Mestil's acid sheath) and some spells that stop them from healing. Also keep in mind that Maugrim is a cleric and he will run and heal those who are injured. He can also be a pain in the ass if he get his spell resistance spell on.

A question is, do you have any henchmen along? If you do they would surely be a somewhat lasting meatshield that would give you the time to kill at least some of the others.

Just throw around Horrid Wiltings. Put up a greater stoneskin and epic mage armor and this battle is over in a pinch. The only difficulty for me was to keep my stupid henchmen from dying.

I'vetried this I reloaded my Auto Save and sent my familiar in first by posessing him. And those stupid guys simply killed off my familiar and didn't get hostile against me. Of course I couldn't get any further.

I rarely play a spellcaster but think strategically planning your tactics will help. If your only party member is your familiar, try summoning something a little more impressive, before you initiate contact, to hold them off. Contingency and Sequencer spells can help when you really need to whip out the spells quickly. A simple Darkness spell can possibly gain you some time to cast/move, and maybe get off a Time Stop so you can lay a couple heavy duty spells on them that have long casting times. If there is time left, move. Don't stand toe-to-toe with a monk if you're a spellcaster. Good luck.

I'm working with Aribeth, my familiar, a summoned creature and my Shield Guardian.
