targeting woes

Post by vesselle »

sorry, but it's me again.

i'm trying to do the king rat quest in klamath, but am experiencing a weird problem. i can't target the darn king rat. i can be next to him, in front of him or behind him, but since i can't target him, i can't hit him. even in the open passages, where his whole body is visible, no luck. :(

sometimes the walls go solid too... and i can't see my character behind them.

is this a common problem? or is it just because i'm using WinXP Pro on a fairly fast modern computer?

any advice is welcomed :) thanks!

i just uninstalled and reinstalled the game, reapplied the 1.02d patch, started a new game and while doing those silly dark plants in my starting village, it happened again. it apparently occurs after i use a healing powder. at first i thot it was due to my perception dropping, but holy smokes! i started with perception 8 and just went down one point. that shouldn't affect it like that, should it?

in the previous game, my perception dropped down from 6 to 5...

would that have anything to do with it?

IIRC there are patches up to 1.05. They can be downloaded at http://www.nma-fallout.com/.

i reinstalled the game using 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and the upgraded 1.5 patches.

now the targetting problem starts in the temple of trials. :(

i have a small WinME partition and installed the game on that, and while i haven't gotten the targetting problem as of yet, the game stutters a LOT and will just randomly close down. :(

i'm also using a wireless kb and mouse. do you think that could have anything to do with it?

any advice is welcomed. thanks.

You could check that by replacing them with wired ones.

The easiest thing would without be to forget about that darn Rat. Just skip quest, because i cant think of any way to help you, unless you feel like using explosives.

About your Perception problem: Healing Powder affects Perception... A lot. But it is not permanent. If you sleep for a day or so your Perception will return to normal, so no worries.

solution

don't worry, you have not tried everyhting yet. There is a simple solution to your woes: stop using patches. Uninstall the game, reinstall (doing the full install option, so you don't need the CD) and enjoy. No patch needed.

I have played the game for countless hours on a very poor system (64 megs of SDR RAM!) and also on a very fast, new system. Either way, I have never experienced half as many bugs as people who use patches (honestly, i can only think of one serious bug, and it is easy to avoid).

Also, it is possible that although your system is new, the sound card or graphics card might not be compatible with the game. I have encountered sound card problems with many older games, despite the fact that my card was top of the line in 2003, and the games were much much older.
