I have a couple of quest questions.
On the Dawn Ring quest. I was assigned this quest and told to go to the slums at night. I saved the game at that point and did not play BG for a few weeks. When I came back I forgot that I was in the middle of that quest and went off on some other quests. When I finally realized that I had this quest open I have tried to complete it but the theif does not show up at night in the Slums. Does that mean I have missed the chance and can no longer finsih this quest? Will the theif never appear? Is there another way to recover the ring such as going to the Talos temple?
I went back to the Lathander temple and they just give me the same instructions again, to go to the slums at night. Any help?
For Jan, I hever had him in my party before and wanted to try him out. I helped him out when his ex-girlfriend showed up with her sick daughter. After curing the daughter the ex-girlfriend went back with her evil husband. Jan asked me if I would help him if we hear that the husband abuses Jan's ex. Will this happen? Or is this just an open request? Just curious, in case I end up removing Jan from the party later.

That's a good question. Here's the simple answer: you won't get to help Jan deal with Vaelag. That always bothered me until I finished Throne of Bhaal. There are epilogues for every member of your party that explain what happens to them when they go their separate ways. Some are happy, some are sad. Will Jan win back the love of his life, or will Vaelag and his thugs have the last laugh? You'll have to have Jan in your party when you finish Throne of Bhaal to get the answer.

Dawn Ring
If you cannot find the thief, you could try to bypass him by going to the locked house above the Copper Coronet as seeing if it is in the house or on the person inside.
I also read in a strategy guide that the Dawn Ring appears in the Temple of Talos at some point (though this never seemed to be the case for me )
Anyway, this might help you.
