i got this info from a Throne of Bhaal Chat at RPG Vault that was held recently. in there the developers mentioned a few things:
1. possibility of bg chars, such as minsc, being in neverwinternights.
2. when asked about if tob is the end of the epic they said that it's the end of this particular storyline.
3. and when asked if the next bg games will be in 2d or 3d they said that they can't talk about any future games until they're announced.
now i'm sure i'm probably jumping the gun and i know they've said that bg3 is not in works, but from this chat they don't seem to have ruled it out. and yes i know how tob ends, i've finished it once already.
