Armor Class

Post by MegaToerist »

I was just wondering:

What is the AC of your characters? I've read about people getting as low as -20, but I guess that's by giving all goods to the same character. ;)

I've been planning a bit to pass my time until ToB comes out here in Belgium, and here's what I came up with:

ME (Enaloindir, HM Ranger):
White Dragon Scale, 18 Dex, Lavender Ioun Stone,
= -11

MINSC
Vhailor's Helm, Armor of Hart, Sentinel +4, Montolio's Cloak
= -11

JAHEIRA
Helm of Glory, Blue Dragon Scale, Darksteel Shield +4, Dex bonus from the Machine of Lum the Mad
= -11

ANOMEN
Helm of Balduran, Plate of Balduran, Shield of the Order +4, Gauntlets of Dexterity
= -11

SAREVOK
Whong Fei's Ioun Stone, Shuruppak's Plate Mail, Ring of Earth Control, Cloak of the Sewers, Ring of Gaxx
= -11

IMOEN
Bracers of Defense AC 3, Improved Cloak of Protection +2, Amulet of the Master Harper, Dusty Rose Ioun Stone
= -7

I know there are more powerful armors than the ones I use, but I don't get into the powergaming business :) . (Nobody wields the Flail of Ages or Axe of the Unyielding :D )

What do you guys think?

I could think of a couple of things to make your ACs lower (for a mage weild Staff of the Magi while wearing the Ring of Gaxx.....those stack with rings/cloaks of protection). You may want to look into Cespenar's Special Elven Chain :) [Base AC of zero and great for Mages.]

Having said that, I wouldn't worry. Your ACs are just fine to finish the game with fine style. I have found that AC really doesn't make much difference once you go below -5 or so.

mages can't use that chain mail, but thieves can, who can also use the white dragon armor.
i have found from playign TOB, that damage and number of hits is better than a low AC. not a single one of my characters uses a shield and they are all at least -6.
but you have obviously done soem extensive work, and no matter how you play it, i'm sure you'll like TOB when it gets there

Try this for a low AC:

AC = 6 with dex bonus
AC = -6 with Armor of Hart
AC = -11 with Sentinel Shield
AC = -13 with Ring of Gaxx
AC = -14 with Earth Control Ring
AC = -15 with Ax of Unyeilding, I think..

If you had a dual/multi class Mage you could stack the spell Blur to get a lower AC.

Big Metal Unit starts at a -10 AC, with other gear and DEX bonuses, you can get it down to -20.

Nael-Dual-classed mages (Imoen, Nalia & Aerie) can wear Elven Chain and retain their wizard spell-casting abilities. That means they can't use Rings and Cloaks of Protection, but the Aslyferund Elven Chain +5 is AC 0 and makes you immune to normal weapons.

Jesus saves! And takes half damage!

If brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough.

wow, that's pretty cool, i'll have to keep that in mind next time through. i gave it to my assassin till i got the white dragon armor.
so, can dualed/multi'd mages wear the white dragon armor as well?

Nael,

No. Dualed/Multi Magi can NOT wear shadow/white dragon mail. Elven chain (and Drow Chain) is special. It is IIRC the only kind of true armor that permits Mages to cast spells.
