Von Dondu turns 39!

Post by fable »

Per another thread I just started, she wrote the following:

I just turned 39. It hasn't really sunk in yet, and I don't feel old; but still. I'm glad that no one here noticed my birthday. :)

So Happy Birthday, Von Dondu! That will show you to try and slip one by the United Forces of GameBanshee! :D

Happy Birthday Von Dondu !

And I know the feeling....
I'm not exactly far from that myself, and it is an odd thing to wrap one's mind around. I don't feel old, and it still sometimes happens that when I tell people I have a 10-year-old son I can see them looking at me vaguely confused, and trying to do calculations in their minds
 :D

I hope you were able to do something you enjoyed, and that the resulting fun helped to overcome any trauma. ;)

Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone. I appreciate it.

My grandmother turned 89 a couple of months ago. Now that's what "old" means. My Chinese sister-in-law said it's customary in China to celebrate your 90th birthday when you turn 89. My grandmother didn't see the point in that, but she thought it was funny, so that's what we did. When we celebrated my 39th birthday, I said why don't we go ahead and celebrate my 40th birthday this year. :)

I usually celebrate my birthday several different ways. The main "party" is a "get together" hosted by my parents. We celebrate my father's birthday and my sister-in-law's birthday at the same time since our birthdays are only a few days apart. We go out to eat and then have cake and ice cream at home a little while later. A couple different groups of friends (one young, one old) also take me out to dinner on different nights. One of my best friends is 76, and my boyfriend is seven years younger than I am, to give you an idea of the range of people with whom I socialize.

My boyfriend and I also do some fun things by ourselves. We wanted to take a trip to Utah to go hiking in the various national parks (Zion National Park is one of my favorites), but we couldn't go this year due to business obligations. Instead, we went to a theme park called Six Flags Over Texas and a couple of movies, and we took him to test-drive a Ferrari (we test-drove Porsches for fun when he was in college). The salesman who helped us seemed more impressed with my 1988 Mitsubishi Starion than he was with the car he knew we weren't going to buy. :) So I had a pretty good birthday this year.

A belated all the best V_D :)
Mag: Don't remember much at all of last night do you?
Me: put simply.... No :D
Mag: From what I put together of your late night drunken ramblings? Vodka, 3 girls, and then we played tic-tac-toe and slapped each other around.
