Greetings all,
I know that the Lock Pick skill is pretty much useless, but is there anything behind the locked gates @ the very beginning of the game when you first go into the dungeon? You need lvl 4 lock pick & I have only been able to get my Lock Pick skill to lvl 3. Every time I try to pick it, I only just miss one of the 3 buttons I need to push.
Also in that same area are other locked gates with the "Item Needed" message. Any idea whats behind the gates?

Lock Pick & Very First Dungeon
lock pick skill is NOT useless
lock pick skill is NOT useless since there are are some chest in the game that opening them are essential to go farther in the game and there are chests that have some excellent stuffs in them .
i dont know what's behinde those door because if it was important the game direct you to them again!

Well I spent a little bit if time outside the first dungeon killing anything I could until I leveled Pick Lock to lvl 4. I was able to pick the lock to the gate and there was 2 lvl 3 chests with random stuff. Nothing special. The gates are still locked. Perhaps I need to kill the Troll and before I go to that first town go back to those locked gates. Maybe they open like all the rest of the doors once the Troll is dead.
Once I make it there, i'll post more here.

The "pick locks" skill is basically useless, since it only covers locks without traps, and there are only a couple of those in the game. The more useful skill is "disarm traps."

You can find a key for those gates. Start by facing the bridge head left till you come to a little room with water in the center. Jump in the water, dive down and swim through the opening which will take you to a new room in which the key is just sitting on the floor. Now you can enter all the gates in that area. This is by memory but I'm fairly sure it's right. Check the walkthrough.
The lock pick skill improves the effectiveness of lock picks. It also helps to pick the locks on doors but there are few doors that can be picked and keys can be found for them all (only 2 or 3). By increasing lock pick skill you can save exp points on inspect and disarm trap by making lock picks more effective so it isn't worthless just worth less then inspect and disarm trap. With inspect and disarm trap at lev 8 or 9 and lock picks at level 5 you should be able to open all the chest in the game. D

That's what the skill description says, but does it really? And by how much?
Regardless, since there are multiple kinds of picks, and since crystals of time do about the same thing, "pick locks" still seems to be a waste of time. I only put a couple points into it the last time I played.
