Not much of a spoiler, but I thought I'd include a warning in the title anyway.
What's up with Imoens belt? I thought it was odd enough having an unidentifiable item from the start that serves no clear purpose, but then it goes and disappears as if saying 'My work here is done'. Are there any references to it anywhere in the game? Has anyone ever dicovered any evidence that it's not just a complete waste of time? As always, just curious....

Not much of a clue really but when I looked trough the game using the Infinity explorer I discovered that more than just Imoen uses "Imoens Belt". It seems to be an item that prevents death, be it spells or battle.
I would assume that the developers first created the item for Imoen, so that she would not die before being kidnapped in the very start of the game, thus messing up the plotline seriously. This gave the item its name wich they didn't bother to change later.

Thomas is right, the belt just makes sure that Imoen does not die before she is imprisoned by the wizards. If you try to kill her in the Irenicus's Prison, she'll just get really close to dying then leave the party.
Bohdi also has this item in chapter 3 so you can't kill her. Alot of other npc's probably have it too. I tried to kill Gallus' (sp?) daughter in Windspear Hills and she just refuses to die.
