Dead Bodies in Ice Temple *possible spoiler*

Post by Philos »

After taking a little break, I have picked up where I left off in IWD2. I was ready to begin the Z'Hinda Citadel (now done and I am ready to enter Kuhldahar proper). After inspecting all my bags and cases to refresh my mind on what odds and ends I had acquired, I came across two items in my Bag of Holding that I had been carrying for a while. ** possible spoiler** The 2 dead bodies from the lowest level of the Ice Temple. They were found in the room just to right of the bolt shooting device in the center area of that map. Since I could pick them up and they only took up two spaces in the Bag of Holding I figured I might as well just in case they might be part of a later quest or have some such need later on. My cleric wasn't high enough to have a Resurrection spell at the time (he is now), and Raise Dead did nothing. I checked the walkthrough (for just the Ice Temple since I don't want to spoil the rest of the game) and didn't see anything there. I was thinking of trying a Resurrection Spell on them now. Is there something I missed, will they come into play in the future, or are they pardon the pun really nothing more than "dead weight"? It is no problem carrying them but would like to know if anyone has any knowledge about them. Could they be kind of like the infamous "Pantaloons" in Baldur's Gate? Or are they a idea that never got developed fully? Thanks!!

It's related to the Barghest Whelp (Yquog I think) found in the Goblin Warrens. If you didn't kill him then, he will reappear at the end of the game.

Spoiler follows: If you have enough bodies - Men, Women and Cats I believe, (can't remember the exact figure) then showing these to Yquog will impress him, and he won't fight you- otherwise you face a big battle. So if you haven't killed Yquog stash as many bodies as you can.

Hi Ravager,

Thanks!!
I talked my way through the encounter with "Y" so I guess I will be seeing him again. I will save the bodies for then and use them as needed for whatever. I figured oddball items in these games usually get used somewhere eventually. There are a few that don't but most seem to.

Dead cats also have another use at the very beginning of the game, in Targos. Found out only for the fourth time playing :p

I think Brynn means

Spoiler follows: After initially asking Firtha whether the dead cat is hers, you later discover that one of the mercanaries stole him and dumped him in the warehouse. If you return to Firtha and tell her of this discovery you gain a small experience bonus.

If not I'm not sure either

Yeah, that's it. And if you take that cat to the mercs. in the Palisade they ask you why you're carrying around a dead cat :p

It's just for funny dialogue at that stage of the game.

I didn't know of the reward from Firtha though, just that you could tell her about a dead cat found in the warehouse.

I'll check the exact body count required for Yquog at some point...

But kicking the **** of a very powerfull barghest whelp at the end of the game should be fun, so why bother with the bodies? :D

It may be an amusing dialogue. But I suppose if you didn't kill Yquog in the warrens you could try both ways, but the battle will be difficult and Yquog would be a lot more powerful.

In the Prima guide it says that 1 body of a man, woman and cat and a high Intimidate skill are needed to face off against Yquog and the reward is a big XP bonus. I would pick up more bodies to be on the safe side, the Prima guide hasn't always been that reliable :(
