Viconia KILLS Keldorn (NPC Interaction) -- Help? Anyone?

Post by Seth »

My PC: Human Male Bounty Hunter - True Neutral

I picked up Viconia and Keldorn early in the game, I believe in the first two days.
A week (or two) later, Keldorn suggested me to get rid of the drow; Viconia answered him and he replied her that, if she would still be in the party the next day, it would be her death.
Well, nothing happened the next day BUT, a day later, when I was in Nalia's Keep, Keldorn told Viconia that her time's up or something like that, and then they both got out of the party and started to fight, I could do nothing but look at the two fighting eachother.
Of course, Keldorn didn't have any chance of beating Viconia. (I gave Viconia the girdle of Hill giant strength, full plate mail +1 and fortress shield +4. While Keldorn just wore his personal armor and wielded the Hallowed Redeemer, his personal sword)

So, Viconia killed Keldorn, and then asked me wether she was still welcome in the party or not...
I was so angry, I just quit the game and surfed right here, to see if anyone else experienced this, and if there are any tricks to keep them both in your party?!

The game is really great, lots of details, nice stuff and all, but I'VE HAD IT WITH THESE ANNOYING PC INTERACTIONS!!! COULDN'T BIOWARE CREATE SOMETHING BETTER, LIKE, MINSC TELLING THE TWO TO STOP OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT?!

Gee.

Yes, Lovely Drow one less paladin in the world.
About that, some people dont get along.
here is a list (maybe incomplet)
Viconia-Keldorn
Amoen-Jan
Amoen (CN)-Jan and Keldon
Minsc-Edwin
Aerie-Korgan

There are no way out of this.

Yes ,but I THINK (I don't know for sure) if you keep your rep down you can keep them together. I read of people going thur the game with a rep of 13 without having this trouble.

Oh, forgot to say... my rep was 12...

it was 11 first, then I got Viconia (before I got Keldorn) and it went down to 9 (as you know why...)

I went to some temple, I believe it was the temple of waukeen in the government district, and "bought" my reputation to 12.

btw, if you guys wanna correct your game manuals; you need to pay 1200 to advance from rep13 to rep14, and you will need to pay 1500 to advance from rep14 to rep15, I guess they forgot to place the "1" in front of the 200/500. (page131 of the game manual)

Well, I think if you speed-play through the game then you can avoid this problem. Do none of the side-quests, only stick to what's important, cut down travelling time.

For example, Unseeing Eye, Firkraag, Umar Hill's are all extraneous. Some damn nice rewards, but you can get through the game without them.

Speed-playing will help you out alot, because in Chapters 4 & 5 there are no NPC interactions, or romance interactions. Because if you think about it, your in Underdark and all of a sudden Korgan leaves because of Aerie, Keldorn kills Viconia, or Minsc kills Edwin. All of a sudden your left with you and Imoen. Hmmm, bit of a problem there.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter

Question...
My party is now:

Seth (my PC: human/male/bounty hunter)
Valygar
Keldorn
Minsc
Viconia
Edwin

I'm gonna lose Keldorn when I start playing again, and you guys tell me that I'm also going to loose Edwin to Minsc?

Great, now I hate bioware even more!

I played through the game with the following party and had no NPC's kill each other....

Me (CG Half-Orc Barbarian)
Jaheira
Korgan
Minsc
Edwin
Jan

I had no problems at all except that Korgan left at Tradmeet cause my rep went to high, so restarted the game and killed a local...he was happy as a pig in shit after that....

I wouldn't get too bent out of shape losing Keldorn. He's really weak compared to your other choices, INVHO. Heck, I think Minsc is better than him in many regards. The key thing is that you didn't lose Viconia, who almost gets my vote to go to the All Madden Team. Valygar edges her out but an eyelash.

Anyway, it's kinda fun seeing NPC's leave/get killed. It adds a little variety to the game. For example, in my quest Yosh and Anomen are dead, and Krogan is imprisoned. Point is though that Keldorn is expendable!

Each to their own. Depends on how you play.

Keldorn is my number one NPC. Equipped with Carsomyr, Gauntlets of Dexterity, Helm of Balduran, Boots of Speed and Girdle of Hill Giant Strength he's a one-man army.

Quickly cast Prot from Evil and True Seeing first and he munches on mages *and* liches. And the detect evil is useful to know what's hanging around.

If you put Keldorn and Viconia in the same group you deserve all the trouble you get, IMNSHO. I bet it's just becoz he was hoping for a virtual shag... Image

Hey guys,

I started playing again, and I got some tip from the interplay boards.
If you want them both in your party (this also counts for aerie and korgan, etc.) just don't let them both get too close to each other. I'm a few days later now in the game, and I still have Viconia and Keldorn in my party.

Strange thing is, my romance with Viconia is getting better, but Viconia is actually acting nicer to Keldorn now... She even apologized to HIM (yes, I don't mean she apologized to me, but to Keldorn! It's not something I read wrong...)

Anyways, I thought that I should post it for the ppl who are interested.

Oh, Grimm... you're wrong about Keldorn, he is one of the best NPCs out there, he just needs those gauntlets of dexterity for better AC. If you get the Carsomyr+5 for him... whew, like Ivanhoe said: "he's a one-man army"

I just finished the game tonight Image and I managed to keep Keldorn and Vic together from Chapter 3 or 4 all the way to the end. I did all the side quests and kept my reputation around 16 or 17. I think what allowed me to do this is the fact that I save my game ALOT.
On at least 2 separate occasions (once in the Underdark, once at slaver compound in the Temple district) I got the 'next day' ultimatum from Keldorn. Luckily I had saved not too long before each one. So I just went back to the last save and kept on going. 'Q' should be your second most oftern hit key after 'space'.

I'm pretty sure ALL npc reactions can continue in Ch 4 & 5. There are just certain areas in the game where they cannot occur, and most of the underdark areas are marked this way. I always get an NPC or romance interaction as soon as I go into the Adalon's lair, for instance.

From the previous post (Seth) it might not happen if you keep them separated. Now it has happen to me everytime (3 times) , but I didn't know you could keep them apart and stop this.

Renyu - I think you gotta problem. Your party isn't really very well balanced (I don't think pure Swashbuckler is a good choice for the PC in BG2 unfortunately).

I suggest either Jaheira and boost her strength, or Jan and boost Viconia. Can you dual-class your swashie?
