treasure chest at bottom of lake near shadow crystal island
I have tried several times to open that chest at the bottom of the shadow crystal island lake - I always die (lack of oxygen) and my athletics are 9 - so, would a time crystal work? I think it would be really annoying to die in slow motion... also, if anyone has opened that chest... what kind is it? weapon? armor? magic? trinket? I would really appreciate knowing what is down there before I spend any more of my "sittin' around time" on that @#*$ chest... thanks in advance... (damn bloodgills!)
Hey snakes
There are 2 chests in sea of woe and they both contain magic spells and katals. Time crystal can help open underwater chest but it is tricky because you can end up using some of your limited time underwater getting the spell started and if you start it on the surface it is likely to run out before you get through the lock (depending on your celestial magic skill). If you want to try it then you have to at least put time crystal in your quick menu so you can start it with a click of a button.
What I do to open underwater chest is first of all save while treading water. Then make a good approach to the chest, hit 'shift' as soon as "treasure chest" appears at the bottom of the screen. If you make a good approach then you'll be working on the lock before you reach bottom and will sink the rest of the way. You may not be able to do anything about this but it is easiest if you have about 65% chance of opening it. That way the bar runs fast enough but not too fast. But you can open a chest even if you have 99% chance. The lock combinations are random too so save and reload till you get a lock where the buttons you need to press come early on the progress bar.
Athletics doesn't increase the amount of time you can spend underwater. If you like the challenge of sunken treasure I can give you the location of all the other underwater chest.

location of underwater chests
Thanks for your response... I would love to have the location of the underwater chests... especially if you have any high level "melee" type chests (weapons and shields and armor, etc...) that are not noted on the walkthrough...
I am looking in particular for something for my off-hand (dual wielding) and I mostly get crap from the chests on the walkthrough...

I have a treasure map of all the chest outside of dungeons which I will post. I think I'll start a new thread for it tonight so look for that. As far as chest underwater (unless I missed some of them) there are no high level armor or weapons chest underwater. There are 4 magic chest (Lake Hadoen, Lake Dire and 2 in Sea of Woe) 2 mid-level armor chest (Ulm Lake and Lake Dread) 1 low level weapon chest (Lake Lohr) and 2 trinket chest (2 in lost lake). As far as off-hand weapons you could get a bronzes kris blade out of Lake Lohr but that's about it. I was looking for a good off-hand weapon and found out that in the Tomb of souls you can get a Kama of the void which is the best (highest damage) off-hand weapon in the game. Look for it in the Tomb of Voraatus and the room with the Fiend of Ghazbu. That is if you haven’t already been to the tomb of souls. Happy hunting, D

Thanks!
I haven't been to the tomb of souls yet, so I will look there ... I had the kama of the void my last run through... but a real patch-work set of armor...
so I am going to look for more of a set, and a better off-hand weapon than the night dagger... (there needs to be better armor and weapons for sale in the shops... I mean your character out-grows the offerings by the end of the trial of the ancients!
