Hey i decided to start a new thread about my question in the swashbuckling one... I'm going to play with another friend, hopefully swashbuck/cleric and an undead hunter. I'm wondering if that would work and what other possible combos there might be.

2 player combo for SoA - ToB
That's a pretty broad question...
Ideally, a "balanced" party is the way to go... Have at least 1 thief, mage, cleric/druid, and some fighters. But all mage groups are not unheard of, and any combination is possible.
My advice is, if you've played through before, check out the NPC's you're going to want, and fill in the holes.
Both are the classes you picked are solid, but remember, unless you guys aren't picking up anyone else, you'll each get to pick up an extra two NPCs with classes all there own. You probably don't really need two Paladins, so if you're going after the in-game one, you might pick a ranger. Immy is a favorite, and Jan is great, so you may not want any extra casters.

"Recommended" Layout for a Party :
- 1 Divine Caster
- 1 Arcane Caster
- 1 Fighter
- 1 Thief
Basically, a Fighter/Thief (mutliclass or dual-class) and a Cleric/Mage (multiclass) would be able to go through SoA quite easily, while a Fighter and a Thief won't go very far.
At least 1 Mage (or "Half" mage) is needed to breach through enemy defences.
A melee attacker is needed to take the pounding and kill enemies with High magic resistance (Golems come to mind).
A thief is facultative, but still very useful. They dish out great damages from Backstabbing and can help you to go through the game more easily by detecting/disarming traps.
A cleric/druid (or "Half" cleric/druid) is very useful too, since you won't have to relay on regeneration items / sleeping / healing potions if you have one in your party.

every enemy can be defeated with or without magic..the only thing that varies is the amount of time it takes to kill that foe..
only useful cleric healing spell is 6th lvl 'heal' and unless you wear the robe of vecna it's not very good to use in combat since the cast time is very long. the 'rest until fully healed' option plus the fact that almost any char get's full hp in 16hrs...
mage's defense's will wore out in time.. so going behind the corner etc. will do it for you.. having a weapon that does elemental damage(flail of ages) etc goes through stoneskin etc so all you need to wait is for the total immunity/other prot's against magical weapons to expire..
mage's on the other hand against golems.. triggers with magic missiles and couple lower resists for the tough guys will work.. naturally avoiding places with tough golem's at start is the only common sense..
a fighter/thief is insanely good just because of the UAI ability.. he will be able to melee, hide, backstab, disarm etc.. soloing bg1 with one was easy and killing drizzt in 2-3blows was satisfying.. the char is good in bg2 aswell..
