can't win fight
I'm struggling to kill the 'evil party' (Gaius, Rengaard, Draug Fea etc) in the Temple Sewers. I'm struggling in fights generally and having to reload endlessly, so any tips you can give me would be gratefully received. My group contains Minsc, Aerie, Anomen, Korgan, Yoshimo and a fighter, I am on day 19 and still seem very low in XP.
Also, I was expecting to find Keldorn in the sewers but he is not there???

One trick I've learnt is if you carefully approach the party from the West you'll be able to see the archer and the mage easily without being seen. The archer guy (Gallcober?) is easily charmed with the Ring of Human Influence or any other charm spell so use this chance to charm him and immediately hit the mage.
This will take out the main problem of the party because the mage has nasty high level spells including Powerword Stun, Finger of Death and possibly Powerword Kill. If you sent the Archer guy after anyone else he'll get horribly killed taking out two members of the party easily. (You miss out on experience)
From here it should be easy to take out the Cleric and two fighters without much trouble, but I recommend great use of Greater Malison and any immobilising or debilitating spells.

As for Keldorn, you have to speak with the Church of Helm before he will appear in the sewers.

A good tactic I use; emotion, have fighters go toe to toe with archer and clerics to keep them from casting spells and keep archer in melee, fast some group enhancing/healing spells with cleric, if mage is high enough, use some sort of killing spell on one of the spell casters (preferably finger of death). Other than that, look for some good spell scrolls from ribald and various sellers in the promenade or bernard after freeing Hendak. Good ones include sunfire, symbol death, (I think you get the idea now). Also, dont be afraid to use wands and magical item charges you have picked up along the way as well as potions. To counteract the mages spells, make sure your guy he's targeting has high saves and he should be able to withstand most of the stuff he throws (save against death for finger of death is good as he casts it only once).
Hope that helps,

Surprised nobody has mentioned resist fear. That is the most needed spell for me in this encounter. I come from the south and use cloudkill, web, fireball, fireball, with the fighters dropping anyone who emerges with ranged weapons. Has anyone ever paid them ? - Curdis !

Nothing to be ashamed of. Did they say/do anything cool? Do you get your revenge later? - Curdis !

If you go this quest earlier then you might have a few problems. What I would advice is to wait untill you have at least done 1 or 2 quest and then go and take these guys out.Spells like web and grease do rather good in this battle.Emotion work rather well on most the party besides the mage. The first thing I would do is summon a few creatures for them waste a few around on and then cast spells like web and grease. If you did hendaks quest then you should the death fog spell which this battle all the easier. That spell will kill the mage in a few round stop him from getting his spells and will also kill other member of the party that remain in the area affect in few rounds also.
[QUOTE=Thrifalas]Um, you don't have to pay them to reach keldorn, right?

No, you can go via the centre of the sewers killing off the rakshasa and kobolds (winning the Cloak of the Sewers ) completely avoiding the party but still seeing Keldorn and accessing the Lower Sewers and Mekrath's domain.
I always leave the party until I'm quite high-level, by then I cast the Chaotics Commands and Death Wards on my party and then the battle is simple.
I suppose at lower levels you could elect one of your party member's a guinea pig, cast the above spells on them and then that character can be a target for the mage while the rest of your party deals with the other enemies.

When I do this at lower levels, I usually get Jaheira to summon up between 2 and 4 mountain bears. I then buff my entire party (including the bears), and I also make sure I cast haste. I send the bears in ahead, and by the time my party ventures in, it is just a matter of mopping up the pieces

Staves also work wonders in situations like this.
Even potions can be handy, like all those giant strength ones.
A few cloudkills thrown in... One where they stand, and another a little ways south. When they start to chase you then wander into the second cloud and take more damage.
IIRC, the fighters will still have to be finished off, but the casters can be killed this way.

I attack from the south-east corridor, rather than the south, but when feeling particularily testy, I'll attack from both angles, one or two casters at each end, and one or two range fighters.
Cast a few spells at the same time (web, grease, stinking cloud then fireball, skull trap, cloudkill).
This battle gets very easy after that.

When you know exactly where their line of sight begins/ends, just approach from any direction (I usually go from the South right after I've killed the rakshasa, and that is what I recommend), cast web and/or entangle JUST OUTSIDE THEIR LINE OF SIGHT and follow up with a couple of cloudkills (use a wand of cloudkill if your mage doesn't know the spell). After casting, retreat south to the small corridor inbetween the center room (the one with the rakshasa in it) and the small circular room to the north of it. By the time the web/entangle runs out and your mage is attacked by whoever survived the cloudkills, the attackers will be very weak and easy pickens for any ranged NPC:s standing int the given location. A bit cheese to some, but hey, if you need the exp and the gear - Enjoy.

Another tactic that worked for me.
I typically have inivisiblity cast on Yoshimo and use him to scout ahead with detect traps on. He doesn't suffer hide in shadows failure this way and can keep the detect traps going full time. When he discovered this little group I had him back up to just barely with in sight of the closest (forget which one that is). I then had the rest of the party come up to a short space back of Yoshi and therefore still out of sight of that party. I simultaneously had Jaheira cast entangle, Aerie cast web, Anomen cast holy smite, and Nalia cast Cloud Kill. With two "entanglement" types of spells going off at least one or two of them will fail and get caught within the couldkill which makes life easier. I had the party drop back a few steps to await their charge and had Yoshi wait (still invisible) for any spell casters to approach. The cleric and a fighter (one "injured" and the other in "badly injured" status) came forward Minsc and my Paladin took them out fairly easier along with a nice backstab on the cleric by Yoshi. The cloud kill really took the others down pretty good and a pair of fireballs from Aerie and Nalia finished them off.
