"Unlearning spells" And scripts...

Post by LordDW »

If i learn a spell with my mage or sorcerer, how do i "unlearn" it ? to save the spot for another good spell ... ?
And, with the spell "Spell sequencer" its kinda irritating i have to put the same spells in it all the time, coz i mainly just use the same spells in it.. and it annoys me i have to put the same spells in it, once i've used it.. is it possibly to make a script that automaticly puts the spells of my choice in it? (Chronomatic orb, magic missiles and melfs minute metoers)

I was going to say that mages cannot unlearn spells. (In fact I did) I know it specifically says that you can't in real D&D, and I am pretty sure I heard the same thing somewhere in this game, but I just read a completely unrelated post in which Maurice mentioned unlearning. Have you tried the obvious things? Right-clicking on the spell in your book? If you can't figure it out, maybe email Maurice or write a post that will catch his attention.
(In case you hadn't gathered, I don't know Image)

Before I get the blame of providing FALSE information here, let me set things straight.

I mentioned the 'unlearning' of the Lightning Bolt spell as meaning to empty the slot in which it was memorized, so another spell could be learned instead. I didn't actively remove the spell from the mages' book, I just removed it from the memorised spells.

I didn't think about this confusion until I read about ... if I confused anybody, please excuse me. I don't know if you can truly unlearn spells (e.g. completely remove them from your spellbook), but that would most certainly be nice!

Spells can not be removed from the spellbook save by the use of an editor. There is no scripts at this time to put spells automaticly into a spell sequencer.

Both of these questions touch on the subject of the tactical planning involved in simply being a mage. In PnP AD&D there are thousands of spells available and you can just learn a very small amount of them to put in your spellbook. This creates a careful planning by the player and in the end creates a mage with specific strengths and weaknesses. Since BG2 only contains a very small amount of the PnP spells, for obvious reasons, you can come very close to learn all the spells available by simply using a potion of genious when you try to scribe spells after the "You have reached all the spells of this level allowed by your intelligence" warning sounds.

A sorcerer is not so lucky and critical planning is needed if you don't want to use an editor to correct your mistakes.

Don't worry about saving spots or 'unlearing' spells. Just learn everything you get your hands on for the exp...

Carry around some Potions of Genius and/or Potions of Mind Focussing. If you get the message that you have reached the limit, pop a potion and learn the spell.

Mind Focussing is probably the better option since it has the side effect of raising your Dex. It has a shorter duration however (3hrs vs 24 hrs).
