Pronouncing "LaCroix" ...

English is not my first language and I know a little french, so when I first started playing this game after I saw the Prince's last name, I kept pronouncing it as how the French would do - i.e. /LAKRWA/. This way of pronouncing his name is stuck in my mind and I can't say it the way that the NPC's say it in the game!
So the first time that I was going to the ventrue tower to report after I blew up the warehouse in Santa Monika I kept wondering who this /LAKROY/ guy is that the security guard keeps mentioning ! :D
I was wondering if anyone else has ever pronounced his name the way that the French do? ;)

Also, La Croix in french means : A cross. And as you can see the posters of a cross on the bus stops, I guess SL must be responsible for them but still the texts on the posters are so blurry that I can't read them... :p

I was a bit surprised about the pronounciation as well (french is my second language). I guess that (in-game) he would have changed it when he immigrated, meta-game LAKROY is easier to pronounce in english than LAKRWA.

I've never noticed the posters. Are they in all the main areas, or just downtown?

Simpler solution: Americans have a strong tendency to brutally mispronounce words that aren't in English (and even some that are). LAKROY is what it would look like it should be pronounced if it were English, as in Lak-ro-I.

You can pronounce French. There are no sounds in French that can't be pronounced in English. You choose not to pronounce French, and that is your choice to make.

Since Lacroix anglicised his first name (in French it would be Sébastien) it's no wonder the pronunciation of his last name has been anglicised (as has happened with the names of cities as New Orleans, Detroit & Baton Rouge ;) ), that's what happens after some time with names who are originally in another language. And Lacroix is probably isn't a recent arrival in the States since he hardly has any French accent.

Heh, I was wondering that myself. I'm a huge hockey fan, and fan of the Colorado Avalanche and the general manager of the team is Pierre LaCroix. And its pronounced "LAKWA", not "LAKROY".

If it helps, for the first 60 years of his unlife in America, he prolly spent it saying "It's /LAKRWA/, not LAY KROW, you half breed yokle moron!" untill eventualy the whole world was saying it "wrong" because the French as he knew it no longer existed and now, suddenly, this big, dirty "America" was very popular...

So, he lilkey winces inside evertime someone says his name, but stays quiet these days.

La Qua

perhaps it is one of those vampire hang-ups

first of all his name is LaCroix = the cross then it is also pronounced l'aqua = the water (I know in French it is l'eau before anybody picks me up)
just as well he has his stake rare.

my aunt's maiden name was Delacroix another variation.

Lacroix is pronounced lakRwa (with the French uvular R)
L'aqua is pronounced lakwa (no R)
So I don't think that works.
