Watchers Keep from SoA (possible spoilers)

Post by Lews Therin »

I'm currently in chapter 6 of SoA and have decided to tackle Watcher's Keep. This dungeon rocks and I'm having a lot of fun playing it but I have a couple of questions.

I found a poison flail head. Can I have this attached to the FoA in SoA or do I have to wait until I've started ToB? I tried taking it to the de'Arnise forge but nothing happened there. Similar question with the white dragon scales. I haven't tried going to the Cromwell forge. Will that work with either of these items?

I tried going to Cromwell with the white dragon scales and he never mentioned them. It appears that you have to wait to get to ToB for Cespenar to make anything of anything you find in Watcher's Keep.

My advice for anything you find in Watcher's Keep: Don't sell anything you want to take with you into Throne of Bhaal. I lost/misplaced/sold a couple of things in Watcher's Keep from Shadows of Amn only to get to ToB and find myself without them.

Thanks for the reply.

This brings up another question that I forgot to ask. Does Watcher's Keep maintain it's state from SoA to ToB? Or will I be able to clear this dungeon again from ToB for more XP?

I think it will be the same.I am not very sure though. I played 1st level in SoA and the rest in ToB, everything is fine.

It stays the same.

I went to Watcher's Keep in Chapter 6, before I beat Bodhi and got most of the way through level five before the bad guys began wiping the floor with me. I completed Shadows of Amn and went back to finish the job figuring it would be easier with a 24th level Nalia rather than an 18th level Nalia.

I figured that the game would carry over its settings but like you, secretly hoped that it would reset Watcher's Keep enabling me to get a second ammo belt, all the goodies again, and more XP. Alas, that was not to be as everything was just as I had left it.

What is good about only doing half of Watcher's Keep in SoA is that you can get Cespenar to make all of the stuff he can for you to take back for the really tough battle(s) at the end.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently on the level with LtM (4 I believe). You're saying the fights are going to start getting really tough on the next level. I kinda figured that but thought the fights had already been pretty tough with all the demons on level 3. I especially liked the room where you had to disarm all the traps just to move from the portal all the while being attacked.

My current party is right at the old XP cap (around 3 million). Do you think I should come back for level 5 when I'm a little tougher and have the cool new weapons?

If you're having a lot of success, I wouldn't stop. I don't know if you've read the walkthrough for Watcher's Keep, or if you like suprises and are avoiding learning what happens later, but I'll tell you this: The nasties on level 5 are tougher than those on level 4, as you might expect.

My party consisted of me (elf ranger), Minsc, Jahiera, Imoen, Aerie, and Nalia. I got all the way through level 5 until the final battle before level 6 opens up. That last batch of nogoodniks chewed me up and spit me out. Five times. I tried every trick I could think of: gas clouds, summoned help, delayed blast fireballs, traps, you name it. I finally gave up and finished SoA. Well into ToB, I went back yesterday and finally got to level 6.

If I were in your place, I would see how far I could get. Hell, you may have some trick up your sleeve that I missed and you might beat level 5 on your first try. No battle is impossible; some just need more reloads than others. Good luck!
