I broke down and bought DL yesterday, mainly because of what people in this forum have been saying about the game. After finally figuring out how to install the patch I started playing, and I'm having a blast!
I am barely out of the sewers so am really looking forward to the rest.
The monsters are as good as I have seen anywhere - that War Troll Jeez I nearly jumped out the window when I saw that.
I would have bought the game months ago but I read the reviews and they were pretty horrible, but thats the last time I am going to listen to the reviews on a DW Bradley game. For some reason the gaming media seem to have it in for Bradley.
Dungeon Lords - a great game!

I don't think reviewers have it in for DW Bradley. The game was much different when it came out than it is now, and hopefully the 1.4 patch will improve it even more.

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

I will accept what you say, of course.
However, I have noticed that Bradley gets panned all the time. He did a wonderful game called Cybermage about 10 years ago. It got shot to bits by the critics but I thought it was excellent. Similar with Wizards and Warriors, which wasn't spectacular but was damned good.
But I take your point. Perhaps they should have released it a little later than they did.

Bradley's received generally very good press. W&W had notable problems, but it still got generally positive reviews. Critical response was in fact considerably better than public response. DL has been poorly received by the press, too be sure, but that's as nothing compared to those who have purchased the 1.0 game. There were simply too many promised features discussed in interviews by Bradley, and publicized in screenshots, that weren't in the final package. Some of the features even noted on the box, weren't there in the 1.0 release.
It's gotten better, but this is clearly a game that was a victim of poor project management, blue-sky publicizing, and an unrealistic throw-it-out-the-door release date.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Well what you say about DL 1.0 may well be true, but I wonder just how much control Bradley had in releasing the game.
I am not very knowledgeable in this area of corporate dynamics, who produces, who distributes and so on, although I wouldn't mind some education on this.
It seems to me that Bradley takes the blame because his name is on the product, but I wonder if he is really to blame. I mean, who decides when to actually release the game? Probably not the creative people ...
So Bradley probably had his own agenda when giving his interviews, but I expect he had no control over when the game was actually released. From what I have seen so far he and his team put a lot of love into the game - just look at the textures on the dungeon walls for example. It is hardly likely they would put out a second-rate product intentionally.
