Don't forget girdle of frost giant strength, ring of wizadry, bracer AC3 and helmet (can't remember the name but gives +1 AC). Cloak of sewers helps too :)

if the mage has decent strength..around 10-12 he doesnt needs any strength belts..or if he have companions, then he is better off with the inertial barrier.

the only helm a mage can wear is the mask of king strohm.

but the ring of wizardry could be used instead of the ring of free action

I was thinking about solo sorceror/mage. Normally I give ring of gaxx and girdles to fighters (they are the people who needs it mostly).
Mages can wear dusty rose ioun stone (+1 AC) with patch from Kevin :)

What does the mask do? I thought it existed purely for story line.

the mask (and every thing else equiped in the head slot) acts as a helm. i.e. averts critical hits.

and for a missle weapon don't overlook the firetooth dagger. (chances are you have a cleric that can make use of the sling)

A couple of things I'd disagree with.

Ring of Gaxx: Why give it to a mage? Your mages should be out of the battle area. If they ever do get in trouble, then he/she has the staff of magi to cloak and escape to a safer spot. In any case, mages have stoneskin, blur, mirror image, ghost armour etc... they don't need any more protection. Ring of Gaxx is better suited on one of your front line tanks.

Boots of Speed: Same thing applies. Mages don't need it. It doesn't increase the rate at which spells are cast. Only movement rate and rate of weapon attack are effected. Therefore, much better suited to a front line tank. A cavelier weilding Carsomyr would be a good choice.

The others are a good choice. Some alterations I'd go with would be using Firetooth +3 the +3 throwing dagger which adds fire damage instead of the sling of everead. Save the sling also, but use it on enemies requiring greater than +3 to hit, (in SoA, that's only the Demi-Lich) so using firetooth gives more damage and is a better option to go with.

Boots of Avoidance: are probably a good bet too since no matter what, those stray arrows always manage to get your mages. We all know what arrows can do to disrupting spell casting, so boots of avoidance could be a good solid choice here.

Pale Green Ioun Stone: I'd definitely go with this one over the Mask of King Strohm or the other ioun stones too for that matter. The Dusty Rose Ioun Stone would be a close second. Even the Pearly White Ioun Stone has its benefits with it's regeneration ability.

Rings of Wizzardy and Acuity: These would be my choice for rings since it increases the power of your spellcaster. Adding more spell slots so you can choose more defensive spells like blurr, stoneskin etc has a greater benefit than free action.

That's just my choice though... feel free to disagree with any of my choices since they are just that, my choices. :D

My $0.02:

Cloak of Mirroring is only useful on front-liners. Enemy spellcasters are scripted to only target the nearest PC (with some exceptions regarding spell protection removal). If you want to reflect a Beholder's rays or an enemy Mage's spells, you'll have to get up in their face. Of course, if you solo, you are the front line.

Same goes for the Boots of Speed. If you have tanks holding the front, you don't need to be so quick on your feet. Let your tank have it so he can charge or help out faster.

I'd also go for Firetooth. Save Everard's Sling for your Cleric or Druid buddies.
