What the hellah? Perks and traits?

Post by Squee »

What is going on? I bought Lionheart for about 3-4 days ago, and I was looking through the manual, and it's completely bugged. There are so many perks that do different things in the game, than the manual says they'll do. For example HtH perks, my god they have been nerfed down to nothing!?!? I just want to know wich perks are still good, wich are the best perks? I also want to know what the max level is, if you read the manual you get the feeling that 30 is max, but is that true? I got the feeling that "Skilled" was one of the best traits avalible, you can almost say that it raises your INT by 3!!! Well, please answer my qusetions, pretty please...

Oh I forgot one! Why ARE 90 % of all the more difficult monster (Undead, Hujark) resistant to fire?!?! That is a problem for a Thought:Fire mage like mine....

I don't know if there is a level cap but it's definitely above 30 if there is one, I never reached it.

I often go for perks that increase a stat and some skill at the same time and the Swift Learner perks. I'll try and recommend some more perks for you later on.

As for resistances to fire, Brimstone Reavers ae mainly fire-based, that's what they do, other enemies like Hujarks have weaponry and armour that gives them protections against fire and bonuses to use it, which is partly why I stay away from the elemental Thought Magic.

Let me get in quick before my grandson wakes up...

I have a char near the end of the game, at level 46.

You HAVE to have the basic requirements for any Perk for it to become available to your char. For example, if you want HtoH Perks, go for Bonus HtoH Damage - BUT you need 6 AGILITY, 6 STRENGTH, be at level 5 or above, and alrady have an Unarmed skill of 50 . If you are lacking in ANY of those requirements, the Perk will not appear in your Perks Available list at level-up. Which you should know if are reading the Manual. :p

Other HtoH:
Pugilist - 25 Unarmed, Level 5
Slayer - 8 Agility, 8 Strength, 80 Unarmed, Level 14

Other useful perks for HtoH char, though not specific for the class:
Dodger
Damage Resistance
Die Hard
Retribution

But you should have sussed all of those from reading the Manual, which is where I got 'em from. I have never used HtoH. ;)

Besides, if you are meeting Hujarks, you are pretty well along in your game, so you will have have figured out a fair bit by now.

Skilled is a good Trait.
But it DOES mean you only gain Perks every 4th level, instead of every 3. If you are happy to trade off Perks against an additional point to every attribute, plus 5 extra skill points per level, that is fine. I used it ONCE. And got very frustrated very early in the game because I wasn't getting perks every 3rd level - so I wiped out the char and started over.

I prefer any two of these:
Ascetic
Studious Tinkerer
Good Natured

For an HtoH char, you might do well with:
Heavy Handed
Nasty Disposition

I think you mixed up skilled with gifted, skill gives 3 more skill point per level, and u only gain perks every 4 levels instead of 3. And I know about the requirements for all the perks and stuff like that, the thing is, the manual i incorrect, the perks do different things in the manual than in the game, and i want to plan my chars before playing them, but because of the bugged manual i cant plan anything! Where can I find a manual that shows what the perks really do??

Sorry - I do get those two mixed up! :o

Well, when you look at the Perks screen in-game, that actually does tell you what the Perks do. I haven't found the in-game info incorrect. I agree the manual has a number of errors, though. I found it irritating myself, until I discovered the in-game info was ok.
The Manual even has the spells in Nature's Fury branch in the wrong order to what it is in the game!

That information can also be found in the game's Readme file (inside the Lionheart folder). :)
You could either print it off, or keep it open in the background to refer to (switch between program and the document by pressing Alt-Tab)

Slayer is definitely a good perk to go for and there are several items in the game that increase HtoH stats such as the Ring of the Brawler.

OK, thx! But I've started a new character, a sniper-mage, with ranged, divine:smite and divine:fortitude, OMG the game is easy now, this guy is too overpowered, a minimum of 20 damage per bolt?!?! 14 perception and 13 agility, at level 18!?!?! OMG! No weakness, tresistance against everything, stong magical damage, healing, weakening, and crazy ranged damage, ****e!

Wow, how did you manage to get those stats so early into the game?

Oops, I made a mistake, I'm level 21 =)!

I started out with 9 perception, I killed and did quest till i rose to level 11 and i took Gain Perception, +1 per from Stargazer perk, and +2 from being an inquisitor, and +1 from Superior Senses perk = 14

I started out with 9 Agility, when i reached level 11 i Took Gain Agility perk, +1 from Weapon Handling, +1 from the Djinni in the crypt, and a belt that gives me +1 = 13

I saved a few perks in the beginning, so that when i reached lvl 11-14 thing would explode! Though I havn't gotten Sharpshooter perk yet, i'm soon about too...

Er... I was under the impression you can't increase Attributes above 10.

Ravager?

Regardless, I won with these Attributes (and it wasn't too difficult):

STR 4 (items-boosted to 7)
PER 8 (9)
End 6
CHA 7
INT 9
AGI 7 (8)
LUC 6

I just checked the Manual Addendum. It says:

"Perks that give attribute bonuses will not be able to be selected by players that have an Attribute value of 10 or more."

Which is actually saying both 'no you can't' and 'yes you can' in the same sentence.

Even the ruddy Addendum can't make it's mind up...

If I understand it correctly Attributes can go over 10. In fact, in the game I'm currently playing if I arm a Ranged Weapon my Perception stat goes up to 11 (the base of which is 9).
The 'Gain Attribute' perks are limited to 10 however. If you have 10 points or over, they shouldn't be selectable. That applies for my Perception stat currently, so those perks should be correct. As for the other perks that increase stats those don't mention any limits so I assume those can be taken at any time. Quite a handy way of getting around the Gain perk limitations. :D
And the sentence you've quoted there, Fljotsdale, just refers to the Gain perks- it's impossible to take the perk when the stat is 10+.
As for the 15 limit, I don't know, I've never managed to raise a stat that high, generally my stats are at 10 or lower.
